Is it just me, or is this "upgrade" really not that great?
Maybe I just became a little too comfortable with WMP9, but I really can't get used to the new version. In fact, I find it rather cumbersome, and I try avoid using it if possible.
It is just not user friendly at all. I hate this "Library" setup it uses, what a pain in the butt.
I'd be interested in hearing from other users of WMP10. Do you like it? Love it? Hate it? Why/
If you hate it, what do you like for MP3, Video, multimedia, etc??
I got my h4155 about a year ago and it came with WMP9. I soon realized it was a major memory hog so I installed the freeware program GSPlayer. It plays MP3s, however I recommend DivX Player for MPEG's
GSPlayer allows me to stream music much more easily from my computer. It has an equalizer with more settings than you could imagine, skins, etc etc. It only takes ~.5mb to run! And it's free!
I've only used DivX Player once and it was good, however I never really payed much attention to it because I don't watch movies on my PPC.
What I don't like about it is that on the Axim X50 the buttons won't map right. If I try to set a button say the calendar button as "Play" while WMP is running, it runs my calendar instead. Not only that, you don't have the option of the buttons working during "background play" they just don't for me.
I mainly use Pocket Player for all of my music files when I don't have my iPod handy, but every now and again you'll want to stream some internet radio and WMP is the only player that can handle it - like in the case of .asf streams.
I never really got on with MS Mediaplayer 9 as it is very limited in the media formats it uses, the playlist options suck and generally so does the whole app. So I never bothered with MP10 instead I use Betaplayer by Gábor Kovács and Dan Marlin for all my music and video needs.
BetaPlayer is a media player for embedded devices e.g; PocketPC. It has built in codecs like mpeg4 video (XviD,DivX), mp3 (libmad), vorbis (Tremor) and supports third party plugins too (AAC and WMV) and more.
I find the playlist options basic, but infinitely more usable than MP9 and the variety of formats Betaplayer can handle is excellent.
I REALLY like being able to use one app to listen to music or watch videos .
But maybe one of the biggest selling points of Betaplayer is that it's FREE!
It's also being continuously refined and updated by Gábor, who is very keen to hear user feedback.
