HP Releases 4700 ROM update

For those ipaq hx4700 users among us, HP has released a brand new ROM update which is supposed to fix a grocery list of issues, mostly with wifi connecctivity and security. I for one have been waiting for this having had a variety of odd minor issues with WiFi, such as the ipaq thinking there is a network available that dosen't exist in a particular location.

I am running the update later today. I will try and post feedback after a couple of days with it. I think it would be great if any hx4700 users would post info about their experience (good, bad, and ugly) with this major update. If you are not updating, why not?
Ta ta for now...

I had downloaded the update and installed it. It works flawsly, no problems whatsoever. One important advice, to sync before doing it since it erases the whole memory.

Alright, I'm now updated, and personal files restored, no problems during the re-ROM'ing. Basically, if you are a 4700 user, no reason to fear the new rom
Tho, I will note, when you are restoring a backup, avoid restoring your registry, can't be certain what could end up going hay-wire. This of course means having to re-install apps etc. But that's less painful than messing up the device!.

You know, I never thought of restoring everything (except) the registry. I knew you couldn't restore a backup to a new ROM image, but this workaround sounds like it has potential to be a good time saver.
How do you know which software needs to be reinstalled?

OK. I performed the update yesterday, and after a minor snag, it went ok. For whatever reason, during the "searching for USB device" process, the update died. I did check my device and only saw the HP ipaq logo with "USB" across the bottom. Did a soft reset, re-seated onto cradle, restarted the update, and it ran to completion in about 20 minutes.
I highly recommend the following steps:
1) Perform a Backup to CF or SD card prior to update, then remove the card with the Backup on it for the duration of the update.
2) Copy the Ipaq Filestore onto your PC (or even your CF or SD card). This may take a few attempts to get everything copied, but doing this will save you time later. The update wipes the FileStore clean.
3) Run the update, with device in cradle.
4) When complete, check the device, see if Bios # has changed in Asset Viewer (it should have). Also, check that you now have WM10.
5) Dump the Filestore copy you created in step 2, back into the FileStore directory on the updated device.
6) Pop in your SD/CF card (s), perform a Restore. You will be required to soft reset to complete.
Using these steps, I was able to successfuly restore 90% of my apps. I lost a few, but the biggies like Acheive-IT, Acrobat Reader, Bejeweled2,eWallet, etc. all were restored to their previous state. The apps I lost were non-licensed freeware, so no big deal.
GOOD LUCK!!
