This week's free app over at Handango is called geniusPro. It is an "advanced unit converter for professionals and will take care of all your unit conversion needs. A must-have utility for everyone who is related with units and measurements."
It will perform the following calculations:
• Acceleration
• Angle
• Area
• Capacitance
• Charge
• Computer
• Density
• Energy & Work
• Force
• Fuel Usage
• Heat
• Inductance
• Length
• Light (Luminance)
• Line Density
• Permeability
• Power
• Pressure & Stress
• Radio Activity
• Speed
• Spread Rate (Mass)
• Spread Rate (Volume)
• Temperature
• Thermal Conductivity
• Thermal Resistance
• Time
• Torque
• Viscosity Dynamics
• Viscosity Kinematics
• Volume
• Weight
Jeez I just hate it when you download an app and then find that it requires an Evb or other runtime to be installed before it will work.
Am I the only one who feels that this approach to programing is a pain?

To err is human, but to really foul things up you need a computer.
Sure it's a pain, but the alternative is worse. The alternative is that every developer and company in the world must develop using one and only one programming language. Talk about your "Antitrust lawsuits" In other words every developer would probably have to code in C or assembly language, there'd be no Java apps, no Shockwave, no Flash, vb apps, C#, or SQL applications because all of these require plugins in order to work.
I think what's worse is that we must constantly worry about the space limitations of our System memory. Think of all the cool stuff that could be built if we didn't have to worry about space in our system memory. The WM OS and hardware is pretty darn powerful for what it is - yet, as power users we must constantly worry about the space taken up by "helper" apps! Why?
Does the average person who wants to play a Flash based game on their desktop worry about the ~2.5 MB Shockwave plugin install? No, of course not. But why? Because that's nothing on your average 20Gig+ hard drive - you've got space to burn. But 2.5 MB in the RAM of your Pocket PC is humongous in terms of Pocket PC memory.
With Pocket PC Techs doubling memory on every device practically as soon as it comes out, we know that the technology is there to support higher memories and this is in demand. Yet, the manufacturers are slow to implement.
I wonder why?

I can understand the premise behind the above statement, but why do developers present programs for sale (or in this case free) but neglect to mention that an additional program/download is required.
To my mind it's kinda like a child going out and purchasing the long awaited toy (or even PPC ) they've been saving for over a period of months, only to find the toy requires batteries, but none were included with the toy and they don't have enough cash to nip out and buy them too.
I guess that I generally find it just a bit disappointing.
Anyway getting back on topic, Genius pro is basic in appearance, but appears quite functional. It's just my luck that I was in a meeting only the week before last when the director chairing the meeting was having some difficulty working out some electrical conversion that an app like Genius Pro could have done in a snap (which would have had the knock on effect of making me look like a genius too , well either that or a looking like a fruity bum lick).
Oh! and Brad, new sig

I agree. I'd have liked to know I needed to download it, and the link to go to.
And what is the link? I hope it won't mess up my QTEK 9090.
Doug
Well, I'd like to download it, but I'll be buggered if I'm giving my credit card information out for an item that costs absolutely nothing. Seems like a nice information gathering exercise to me. I don't suppose anyone would like to email it to me would they? I know it's a big ask for someone whose first post is a moany, whiny one.
Hi MrCoggy and welcome to Pocket PC Addict
You need to sign up for the GoPass promotion if you haven't already. While going through the process, choose gift certificate or whatever and it should take you straight to the download...I just did it and I went straight to download.

Ooh...thanks. I was going to try that, but when I saw the payment information tab I thought I was going to wasting my time.
A little bit naughty of Handango to ask for credit card info right from the get go when simply registering I thought. Even sites where I buy stuff all the time (Ebuyer for example) didn't want that off me, and we weren't talking about micro payments either.
Thanks again for the prompt tip. This may well become a place where I can waste a few precious minutes of each day rather than just bitching about money etc etc.
I'm not normally that miserable.
