New µBook update.

A Christmas present for the e-book fans in the audience. µBook went from 0.9a to 0.9b today. But the change is a lot more substantive than the moniker lets on. Have a look:
Quote:
What's new in µBook 0.9b - Holidays 2004
File format Galore
PDB: Added handling of Palm format (eReader) and Mobipocket newer compression format.
Does not handled encrypted files.
As a side-effect, cover images is now only taken from inside a PDB file.
Thanks to NetWorker for the new Mobipocket format information.
PML: Added parser, set as default for PDB files.
Footnotes (Sidebars?) are dumped at the end of the text, without proper naming/linking.
In PML \UXXXX \Xn \x \Cn are skipped or ignored
No parser options yet...
RB: Added handling of Rocket eBook format
Does not handled encrypted files.
Handling is done through compressed folder, so the user has to select the proper HTML file from it.
CHM: Added file format handling.
Memory hungry / slow on first open - fast afterwards.
PDF: Basic (Unencrypted) text extraction.
Doesn't work on newer files.
No font attributes.
Formatting is not too good (what do you expect from a graphic/printing format)
The result is similar to selecting all text in Acrobat Reader and copying it to a text file (i.e. if the page wasn't generated top-down, the text gets mixed-up...)
Increased (artificial) limit of num words per minutes to 1200.
Fixed images, nag, tables and stream bugs.
Updated manual
New skin: n0de by Marcus Kopp
I tried a few chm files on the new version that the freeware CHMreader usually would choke on. µBook did fine... and I didn't notice any difference between the time to open them and the time to open Mobipocket titles. YMMV of course. I've always like µBook's look 'n' feel more than the mobi reader so this is just icing.
The ability to read unformatted pdf files might be useful for engineers and such who carry a lot of text info around in that format. But wouldn't it be great if we could get more people to convert to the cheaper, more feature filled and more flexible RepliGo format?
Have fun. It looks really neat.
