Hi all,
I've been successfully synchronizing my iPAQ 3870 (running Pocketpc 2003) for a while. Finally, after several months, I was able to get my iPAQ and Gateway desktop to communicate via bluetooth. That's good. However, I can't connect via USB anymore. I know my desktop is recognizing the iPAQ when I put it in the cradle because I hear the announcement indicating the connection. I see activesync start on the iPAQ, but it can't connect. And it is not just with my desktop at home. I had it sync'ing with my laptop at my office for a long time and it can't connect via usb now either.
So, I have to assume when I was fumbling around trying to get bluetooth to work, I messed up my usb connectivity.
One final thing, I can't get active sync to work with bluetooth either.
Any ideas or suggestions would be very much appreciated,
Thanks,
Dov
I would say that when you active sync via USB (cradle) and Bluetooth your really using two different types of connection. Bluetooth is a wireless type connection that covers a range of 10 or 100 metres. When you use USB your actually doing a direct cable connection, which also probably uses a different port to connect. So technically speaking its either one or the other.
Have you tried the following, assume that you want to re-connect back via USB cable.
1. turn on your Ipaq then plug the usb cable to the bottom of it to start the
active sync process
2. If the Ipaq does connect via actsync then the green round circle should
start spinning or rotating, if it doesnt then goto step 3 onwards.
3. Go to File then choose get connected, let the device try and connect &
automatically detect your USB setting from here. this might take up to
30 secs or so.
4. If 3 above doesnt work than try the following:
(a) Go to File, then choose Connection Setting.
(b) Tick box Allow serial cable or infrared connection to this Com port. Try
and choose Com 4, though I cannot guarantee that this Com 4 will
work. Its a matter of trial and error here, perhaps try another Com if
Com 4 doesnt work. Also as far as I know this Com port is used for
your Bluetooth and I think Bluetooth actually communicates via the
Com port.
(c) Also tick box Allow USB connection with this desktop
The other two below Ethernet and Icon are optional, so really its a matter of choice here. The Ethernet one is for connection to servers. For my self I've got all boxes ticked, and also connected to Com 4.
Now try and do a repeat of Get Connected where like I mentioned above and see if the Ipaq will re-connect to the PC via USB.
BTW I'm using Ipaq 3970, but bought my brother a 3870 for his B'day and he loves it
