I don't have a wireless router at home, I just have bluetooth to connect my PPC to my PC and use pass-through internet. So tonight I went to Starbucks to try using the internet on real WiFi. Well, it found their AP, long with several others in the area, it showed it was connected and obtained an IP(i.e. the connection icon on the taskbar showing arrows going both ways with no X), and it indicated that the signal was plenty strong. But when I went to use Internet Explorer and several other apps, there just wasnt a connection. PIE immediately said "the web page cannot be found" when I tried several websites.
I tried another AP in the area with a strong signal, and same thing. So what's the deal? I can connect to my neighbor's routers at home, but the signals arent very strong. So was Starbuck's router just not working or what?
well the first thing to realize with Starbucks is it requires a T- mobile subscription. To you have a subscription with them? At any rate you should have gotten a default web site listed. It would be my guess that there may have been a problem with the Starbucks router
Oh wow, no I had no idea they require a stupid subscription! That's pretty crappy. Well anyway, no, i didnt get a webpage...when I tried to go to anything, the browser error message came up immediately. Their router must have been messed up.
That sucks about the subscription...I thought most hotspots were free. Do most require some type of subscription? I'm new to using WiFi.
