It's worth the wait...

Okay, I bought the Pocket DVD Wizard software on Handango for a couple of reasons, but mostly price. It's only $19.95 and it works just as well as the others as far as I can tell.
I took a trip to Vegas last weekend to get married and have a little honeymoon.
A few weeks before, I spent some time using the software to convert some movies to watch from memory cards on my PPC on the plane. It does take a heck of a long time. About 3 hours per movie. The thing is, it works very well though.
I did a foreign film also and the subtitles were hard to read at times, but hey, the screen is not the biggest. Everything else was great though. With a pair of headphones, the experience is good. It would be nice with a way to attach it at eye level to the seat in front of you, but other than that, no complaints.
If you are interested in knowing more about the software, check this site out...

or at Handango to buy it.
Oh, the weekend in Vegas and the marriage were great too.
Over and out,
the Hawkman

Congratulations on getting hitched.
What kind of file sizes do you get with Dvd Wizard?
Is the screen refresh good or does it drop many frames?
How is the lipsynch? (I tried a demo of another similar software - can't remember the name now, but it was like watching a dubbed movie!).
So are you going to post a review of dvd wizard?
I am presently coverting my episodes of The Shield and I can squeeze a dvd with three episodes into 221mb by using the following:
Dvd Decrypter
Virtual Dub
TMPGenc
It does that a long time though

hah! I remember when it took some 18 to 24 hours to encode a movie. Now it's down to 3! How's that for progress?

I got a 90 minute Japanese film with subtitles (Rashamon) into 110MB. For a 100 minute English film with no subtitles (Coffee & Cigarettes) it took 118MB.
Not too shabby really.
Lipsynch was fine on both (I speak Japanese). It was choppy image wise in a few spots, but nothing to complain much about.

Sounds like a really good app, I might just investigate it further...

I wonder how this compares to DVD to Pocket PC? It looks like it converts the videos to Divx?

I use DVD to Pocket PC for encoding and I use my Stowaway keyboard to sit the PPC on the Tray Table for watching it... Works out pretty nice....plus my hands are too busy drinking beers! (Just kidding , I never drink on a plane....gets me too dehydrated.)

Actually, this program produces a WMV file to put onto the memory card.
Yeah, the keyboard thing is nice. I tried that too, but you still have it down at your waist on that foldout tray which puts a mighty crick in my neck after a while.
I'm going to tinker and come up with some sweet velcro dealio and make a million dollars. Okay, maybe more like a hundred. Okay, probably nothing really save the satisfaction of making my fellow PPCers lives better.
