Looking for some help.
I recently was given a iPaq 3630 which was connecting just fine through ActiveSync for a couple months.
All of a sudden late last week it stopped connecting. neither my work PC nor my home PC will connect. I've checked settings, I've re-installed ActiveSync, I've jiggled wires (USB, BTW)... I'm at wits end.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks you in advance.
Hi,
I'd try removing the cradle from the USB port it is in and moving it to a new USB port. When you dock your iPAQ then you should get a "new hardware detected" balloon. If not, I'd assume either the cradle is defective or the USB ports have bad drivers
I have owned and used my Ipaq for the past 3+ years and had the same experience. It worked last Tuesday and on Sunday it did not. I tried both my USB and serial connection. If I find anything I will let you know and would appreciate it if you would reciprocate. Good luck.
This happened to me on one of my PCs the problem turned out to be the McAfee virus suite. By turning off the privacy protection I could then reconnect with no problems. It may also becaused by other firewall/privacy related utilities. Just check them out and see if turning these features off fix the problem. Be careful though if you are still connected to the internet.
Hope this helps to solve your issues.
Wizzy has a good point. Try disabling virus scanners and firewalls. It occurred to me earlier when I saw your messages, that perhaps you two are running XP and the Service pack 2 was installed when you weren't looking. If so, it could be the built in firewall is blocking activesync (It can happen)
Thank you all for the replies.
Earlier this week I hard reset my ipaq and re-installed activesync on one of my PCs. Suddenly it connected and synced up.
Unfortunately as the week has progressed it has gotten worse. Today I've connected it at least 2 dozen times and I get anything from no response to the ipaq connecting and the PC not reacting to a message popping up telling me my ipaq is not compatible with my version of ActiveSync.
I am running win98SE and have tried syncing with both ActiveSync3.1 and the latest, 3.7.
Unfortunately My 98SE PC is my work PC which is firewalled by our systems group in Chicago since I'm connecting through a T-1.
I have not tried any of this through my PC at home yet, which is XP Home, but I will try killing the virus and firewall and try that.

I went back and installed ActiveSync 3.5 and that seemed to connect and sync last night.
Now this morning it seems USB is no longer supported and the checkbox is grayed out within ActiveSync, not allowing any communication.
Any new ideas?
Thanks,
Psion
Was just wondering if you are connecting your Ipaq through a hub of any sorts. Most Ipaqs don't like this so if you are then try connecting to the root hub on the back of your PC.
Also if you are using programs such as dotPocket or other utilities that access your ipaq through the sync cable these may also prevent synchronisation.
My 3850 had lots of trouble connecting through USB. I found the most reliable version of active synch to be 3.7.1
Not connecting through any hubs, just direct to the USB off the PC.
I am also not using any programs other than the ActiveSync and AvanteGo.
Thanks for the suggestions.
