Hi,
I am a new owner of the Asus 716 pda!!! I haven't gotten it yet but I am waiting eagerly for it.
Had a question for all you PocketPC experts:
Which is the best mapping software? Like Microsoft Streets or something.
I want it to achieve these things:
- GPS receiver integration
- Auto - Re-route feature - instantly
- I can download the map of the entire Southern California on to my pda.
This last point is because I am getting a feeling that most of the mapping software want me to input my origin and destination and that is the only part that will be downloaded to my Pocket PC. That sounds kinda stupid to me. I would rather have the entire Southern California in cause I change my plans sometimes and do not necessarily want to have to start my laptop and do that whole process again.
Is there such a thing? Also..please recommend a software that is not highly priced.....something around $70 or so??
Thanx
Anand
You can do what you are wanting with Street Atlas 2005 HandHeld Edition (I hope I don't have to type all that much more!) from DeLorme http://www.delorme.com. I bought the Blue Logger bluetooth GPS with the software in a bundle for about $150 from their site. So far it has worked pretty good for me. I've used Street Atlas for several years on the laptop and on my Palm and this is the best version yet. There are several reviews out there, I think the one I read was at http://www.gpspassion.com.
I have been a long time user of Mapopolis. I know they have GPS service as well as downloadable maps. I use the downloadable maps. I travel for business and have found Mapopolis invaluable. My door to door directions have been accurate and you can select addresses directly from your contacts database (phone list) eliminating the need to enter the address info. I recommend Mapopolis, however, I have not used other mapping applications.
I should have my new GPS system this week from Dell. The use Navitech maps and software which is new for me. My old system was PharosGPS which was fine, unless you got lost. Rerouting was not great with the Pharos.
