New Pocket PC Addict member paclab tells us about a new utility named DoLit CHM2LITyou can use to convert .chm (windows help files) to .LIT files for reading on your Pocket PC using Microsoft Reader. "In the Internet one can find a variety of ebooks in Windows HTML Help format (*.chm), such as: hardware documentation, programming languages, mere fictions. It is impossible to read these files with convenience on a Pocket PC without using special utilities-converters. One of them is Dolit CHM2Lit.This is a powerful tool for creation of a personal ebooks-library for Pocket PC users.
DoLit CHM2LIT - is an unique program, which gives you the opportunity to convert an enormous amount of information from Windows-help files (*.chm) into Microsoft Reader files (*.lit).
This Program is developed using an easy and an user-friendly interface, so that the process of convertion is simple. If you want to make this convertion, chose the chm file, which you want to convert, select a name for lit file, give the parameters for ebook or pass default parameters and then, click "Convert". "
While it sounds like paclab's main goal was specifically to convert HTML help files to PPC format, for those looking for a more general eBook creation capability (as suggested by the thread's subject) one good one is OverDrive ReaderWorks, available free from www.overdrive.com. I'm sure there are others as well, most of which take plain text or PC- or Mac-standard formats and convert them to eBook formats.

I'd like to see a freeware ebook authoring tool that creates ebooks in a format supported by uBook: HTML, TXT, RTF, PDB and PRC (not secure)
MobiPublisher is free and does that, but I'm always on the look-out for others.
sracer,
This ebook maker works like a charm. I downloaded some HTML pages off the net that I was trying to make into an ebook for reading in µBook it was fast and easy.
Great! thanks again.
P.S. sort of off topic, but I just learned that holding down the alt key + 230 makes the µ for µbook

That'll come in handy!
I haven't tried html pages as the source for ebooks, but now that you mention it, it sounds like a great idea. And I have the perfect sites to do that with too! TV Party and Ex Astris Scientia....
