Hey Everyone,
I currently have a DELORME (USB) Gps device. I normally use it with my laptop and the Delorme Streets Atlas Program. I recently purchased a cable hook up that will allow me to hook the Delorme USB reciever to my HP 2215. I haven't decided what mapping / gps software I want yet.
My question is this... Do I have a CHOICE as to what gps software I can use w/ the reciever that I have? Meaning, do I HAVE to use Delorme's STREET ATLAS FOR HANDHELD? Or can I use other mapping software from a different manufacturer?
Lastly, I still have to do some toodling around on here and on the internet...but I am looking for, (and don't know if what I am looking for is even out there yet) gps software that will give me:
1. VOICE / TURN-BY-TURN directions or at least an arrow or something (live - time) that will tell me where I am going.
2. The ability to have the option (like the Delorme Street Atlas Program for my laptop) that I can use to make my STARTING POINT from the GPS unit's coordinates.
3. A "Back on Track" feature (Like the Delorme Street Atlas Program for my laptop) that will re-calculate my location and directions and get me back on track in case I screw up and go the wrong way.
4. Lastly, a way to load the entire US onto my PPC. Can this be done w/ a LARGE CF or SD card? Or does it have to be loaded into the MAIN MEMORY? I do know about the program called "NAVIROVER." However, I don't know if this will work with the GPS reciever that I have.
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Try Mapopolis .
I has Active route guidance and also lets you map from your current GPS position. As long as your GPS device is NMEA compliant (which most are) Mapopolis will detect the GPS device and work without any problems. I know you can download the Mapopolis program for free and use the demo maps for 14 days. You can also load as many maps as you would like onto a removable disk.

I'm using PocketMap Navigator with an iPAQ 2215 and NavMan CF GPS. It too is NMEA compliant and will do all of the things that you want. I am using a 256MB SD card to hold highways, counties, and routes that I generate from Navigator's Data Manager. Check it out at: http://www.pocketmapstore.com/pocnavusa20s.html
