New Web Protocol May Leave DSL in the Dust
No, this story is not about carrier pigeons! It is about a new Internet protocol being called BIC-TCP (binary increase congestion transmission control protocol) that in the research labs at North Carolina State University (Mrs. Isaac's Alma Mater ) is providing data transfer rates in excess of 150,000 times that of 56k modems ""What takes TCP two hours to determine, BIC can do in less than one second. While this might translate into music downloads in the blink of an eye, the true value of such a super-powered protocol is a real eye-opener," says NCSU computer science professor Injong Rhee. It "might even help avoid a national disaster."
I'll tell you what, I am pretty disappointed with the browsing speeds of Pocket Internet Explorer over WiFi. It would be great if something like this turns out to be the magic bullet that provides faster PPC browsing.
What end user hardware could take the volume of data such speed makes possible?
