Convert Palm PIM data to your Pocket PC

Palm users who convert to a Pocket PC device are confronted with an immediate problem- how to get their PIM data into the PPC.
The easiest way I've come up with to do this is to sync your Palm Desktop data with the PIM on your Yahoo account. It's free so if you don't have a Yahoo account sign up and get one just for the transfer. Once your DateBook data is on Yahoo there is a simple to use option to sync Yahoo to Outlook.
Of course, once all your stuff is in Outlook it will ActiveSync to the PPC no muss, no fuss.

James,
Since a new PPC comes with Outlook, I typically advise the Palm user to install the Outlook and then the Palm sync conduits and sync their datebook, notes, tasks and contacts to Outlook. Then all they need to do is install Activesync and sync the pocketpc and they get their data.
Hope this helps

From Palm to PPC

That works pretty well to convert contacts from Palm to PPC. However, I've noticed that the "custom" fields aren't transfered over (please note that don't even own a PPC yet and it may not even have a spot for custom notes). Is there a way to transfer the custom fields as well?

I agree with Brad, my own experience is to use the 3rd-party conduit to sync with Outlook.
To bkbroil, I know you're joking, but from apure PIM app's point of view, there are things that Palm (Desktop) do better than PPC/Outlook.
I used to be a Palm user for many years, andI bought all Palm devices that I owned. I switched to PPC for about 1.5 years simply because my company buys them for me.

To froggy_doggy, if you use the 3rd-party conduit like Intellisync or Chapura, the custom fields will get synced as well.

I am joking.....and you are correct....there are some areas such as PIM functionality, stability and the ease of use, that Palm clearly excels over PPC. I've never owned a Palm, but I have never heard of a Palm user soft resetting multiple times a day...etc... There is a reason that Palms are so popular..

I was working with an older 4MB Palm yesterday on a client's machine. It took - no joke - 25 mins. to sync I used to think that Activesync was bad!

Convert Palm to Windows Mobile 5

The hint I read talks about syncing with a Yahoo account the converting to Outlook. Does that just do the calendar or will it also do contacts and/or memos?
