POLL: Do You Watch Full Length Movies on your Pocket PC?

Lately, we've seen some interesting software released for movie viewing and converting. Namely, with the release of DVD to Pocket PC software last week, now there is a reported 2-click solution for converting DVD movies so that they can be viewed on the Pocket PC. The movies are using less and less space, so even small 128MB SD and CF cards can hold full length flicks.
So today, we've posted a new poll. Do you watch full length movies or TV shows on your Pocket PC?

Yes, I have done that using PocketMVP and virtualdup as encoder. I started at the begining using wmp but the quality is half of what you get using DivX.

I recently spent an over night stay (just bleedin New Years Eve ) in a London hospital (courtesy of a detached retina) to keep me occupied I took along the entire third season of Farscape (the now defunct Sci-fi serial) which I ripped off of my dvd's.
I can honestly report that the entire 3rd season farscape series plays like a dream on my Ipaq 3970 from a couple of 512 compact flash cards, while I can fit an entire movie on to one 128 sd card plus tons of games . I watch my movies on windows media player for Pocketpc 8.5.
To do this I just followed this Tutorial 8) 8) -> http://www.bigdsvideo.com/bigdsvideo...ides/id17.html
That I found when surfing the net.
Hopefully someone else will also benefit from the experience of using this tutorial .

Yuck, is your eye ok? What exactly is a detached retina? From a layman's perspective, it sounds as if your eye would just stop working or go absolutely blurry suddenly. I hope they fixed it!!

Thanks for the link. I just recently copied my Pirates of the Carribean DVD to my storage card using a similar method, for down times, etc. It plays OK, get's a bit pixelated during high-action scenes. Great way to pass the time.

Ok without making it too icky,
The retina of the eye (internal lining of eyeball) can become weakened (e.g. thinner than usual) if a blow to the eye or head is sustained (I accidentally banged by head on a low stair).
As a result of the retina weakening it can become punctured allowing the fluids contained in the eyeball to seep out between the retina and the optic nerve/eyeball lining (second lining) the build up of fluid impedes the image quality leading to blurred vision (in my case) or the appearance of a cobweb/blotches/sparks etc.
If untreated the build up of fluid will remove greater amounts of the retina lining greatly reducing vision and the prognosis for recovery. (you could go blind in the affected eye.)
Treatment is by 'sealing the puncture with either laser surgery or cryo sumtinkwhatsit (technical term) which creates scar tissue over the puncture so sealing it.
A band may be inserted around the eye causing the retina to be pushed back on to the optic area, the band is integrated in to the eye with the passage of time, If successful. If not successful you go through excruciating pain until eventually the band pops out in to cornflakes on morning .
Which is what I had done! with the Cryo stuff
or
The fluid in the eye is drained and replaced with a silicon oil or either of two gases, all of which create a bubble in the eye. 'Posturing' (sitting or lying in the same position for 50 minutes in every hour for a couple of months, you'd have to maintain the same position when sleeping too) is then used to position the bubble over the affected area, so physically pushing the retina back in to place.
Over time the gas is absorbed in to the body and the eye fluid replaces it self with the silicon oil I'm not too sure (I was vomiting at that point ).
Well that's how I understood it, but I'm not a Doc (and I was abit distracted about trying to maintain pole position on Crazy Karts ).
I had perfect 20/20 vision before so hopefully (fingers, toes and other bits of my anatomy crossed) I won't suffer too much vision loss (It'd obviously be worse if I wore glasses).

More info

Hey Chris -- can you give me more information as to what is happening when you try to play videos. Have you tried .WMV files with Windows Media Player? Have tried the "Pictures" application to view the .jpg images?

MP3 files are sound files, you can't watch them.
JPGs are picture files that you can view using a picture viewer.
WM9 should be able to play most mp3 files but you won't see anything, however there are some mp3 encoded files it WON'T play due to bitrate mismatches - you certainly won't see anything like a movie while playing an mp3 file.
hope this helps

Hey, no problem...welcome to post any question you have
The jpegs should open just fine using the ipaq image viewer - does your ipaq have that software built in? I can't remember if the 1935 has it or not right now sorry...
the mpegs now we're getting somewhere. I think you need Pocket TV to play those. They do have a freeware version and I believe they even make a German version too
Let me know if this helps!
Brad

Icky

Addic,
I am glad you didnt give us the "icky" version...it was still hard to read through. Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery.
I am going to try the tutorial, since I have a 128 SD lying around here somewhere.
Thanks,
jrodus
