When I got my first handheld - an iPAQ 3835, I had a Sandisk 128 meg SD card. I was using Mazingo, and one day it sync'ed up and wiped out all of the data on that SD card. It did it 3 different times within a week. And I lost everything due to no backup.
I then started having problems saving data on the same card - trying to write some data out to the card and I could only get about 90 Meg on the card before getting errors. I ended up returning the card to get it replaced under warranty.
No problems with the new card so far....... :?
Sm:
That sucks. I have been wondering about the quality of the Sandisk cards. Ever since people started benchamrking them, it seems the Sandisk cards are really slow.
I haven't had any lost data on my 512 yet, thank goodness. . .
Hi Smaugy,
I've read all sorts of stuff about the Sandisk cards being unreliable and slow. I've actually had a sandisk SD floating around between my Pocket PCs for over a year with no ill effects. Was it slow? maybe..I never noticed the slowness except when trying to preview some of those divx movies using pocket mvp. There were dropped frames, etc.
Yesterday, though, we were messing with Pocket Mechanic benchmarking some of those 512MB SD cards bought from Sears for $99....They were benchmarking 7 times slower than Lexar cards...
The problem is, they don't seem all that slow - using a card reader, they seem just as fast as any other card, copying the same file to and from produces the same results within a second or two. So I am having a hard time believing they are a full 7 times slower. So I am wondering if there might be something else strange going on. :?
Smaugy,
This is a big coincidence...but...I had returned 3 SD cards to Sandisk with the same exact problems that you mentioned...One thing that I have in common with you is that I was using Mazingo also...Mazingo was downloading the files and then using a decompression program on it... I never nailed it down but .... were you using a card reader with Mazingo or were you downloading right to your Ipaq ...(BTW....I have a 3835 also)

Hi, new user here.
I have a Tmobile pocket pc phone and the SD card fits in the bottom, with no external latch. I can't tell a bit of difference between the different manufacturers of the SD cards......because they ALL fall right out and disappear. I've lost a 256, 2 64's and just yesterday my backup 32meg card out of a digital camera I have.
The little spring loading device can get bumped and then its a freakin catapult. I've shot SD cards clear over a desk and into a customer's lap. (not really that funny LOL)
So, I'm gonna go get one of the new 512's, pick a good one, and then SUPERGLUE that rascal in there. (OK, silicone then)
Nice forum, sorry to vent on my first post, but it seemed to fit.
Peace
Dave

and then I would use electrical tape...and maybe some velcro...and then maybe buy a metal case to put it in... :P Losing cards would drive me bannans! I hope you figure something out.

Yeah, I'll second BK on the electrical tape. However, considering the price of memory cards - a case would probably be your best investment to keep from losing cards
Errrr! has anyone had a look at this site (isan't it a sister site for sometink?) http://sdprob.aximsite.com/theproblemlist.htm
It has some excellent information.
After reading this I was able to ensure I picked the right SD card for me e.g. Kingston 512mg origin from Japan.
Just thought it might be useful.
