Survey: How many of you out there use you PPC for video?

Just wondering how many others out there use their PPC for watching movies/tv shows they may have downloaded. What are you using to view? Do you find the movies typically dark? What's been your solution to viable video on a PPC?

I do. Not daily but sometimes. My media is either divX or wmv. I prefer wmv over divx a bit because of Media Player's stablity. For divx, I use PocketMVP.
As for the darkness, I don't think so. If there is some issue that is when you are outdoors but then transreflective screens are like that. No blaim to the movies.
If I have to encode the movies, Windows Media series 9 codecs are best in quality as well as being free.

Sounds like we have been using similar solutions. I've been encoding my movies with Windows Media Encoder, with the PPC settings scaled down so the movies are approx. 100K/s. Seems to work best for smooth playback. But I still find the movies dark, unless you are in a more or less blackened room. I was hoping for some sort of gamma control on 2003, but no such luck.

I have watched one or two videos on my PPC and all-in-all, I am pretty impressed with the quality of the Divx encodes. It can turn my small screen into what appears to be a handheld DVD player! sound isn't the greatest, but as long as the framerate isn't too low, it's really quite stunning.

Ok, so since there are at least a few of us out there using video, I'm wondering what encoding settings people use for windows media files? I've had good success with encoding files at approx. 100Kb/s (Ipaq 3850). Is anyone using anything different?

daily video

I use my iPAQ 2215 daily for video. I record my favorite shows on my pc with the snapstream (now beyond tv) software in their "iPAQ high" preset configuration (it is wmv and I believe it is 207 kbps). It works great, especially in the full screen (landscape) mode.
