I have an AT&T Tilt and am wondering if anyone has the AT&T APN so I can use my Tilt as a modem without paying the 'tethering" charge.
I could use my T-Mo Dash with Internet Sharing, & my friend has an 8525 and does the same thing without paying the tethering charge. The Tilt seems to be set-up differently.
To be honest, I would not even do it...it is not worth it.
What is an APN when i was on the phone with them they were talkin about it and I had no clue.
But I changed over to connecting to my isp instead of medianet, and apparently they messed up in the paperwork or something and thought i was tethering, but since I do not have a tethering plan i was billed $2000!!!!!!!!!!
Not worth even trying it, obviously it was a mistake on their part and I got refunded, but since it would not be their mistake if you got caught, your bill could be astronomical by using your phone as a modem for your laptop.
there is a way out there to use your phone as a wifi router, and also software called pdanet, which apparently tricks the company into thinking your just using your phone and not the laptop (something like that)
I think I've tried that and it didn't work. In response to "acoustics" response, I would hate to rack up charges like that. I was told by a brother at church, that if I used the modem part, it would use my airtime.
Oh well, just wondered. Also, the Tilt doesn't have infrared.
eh i dont use the internet sharing on my 8525 so no big deal if i cant use it for the 8925. check out pdanet tho if you really want to use it. and i dont know about using up your airtime, as in using your minutes? thats not right, data is data, not minutes.
my advice to you would be get pda net, use it a little, wait for the bill and see if they notice, if not then your set.
and to brad, thanks for your response, i never had to use a password (i didnt put it in at least) to connect to WAP, or medianet...but now i am always connecting to ISP, and it seems a little faster and its always connected which is nice.
