Unhappy How can I free up program memory?

Question: I have a cingular 8525. Program memory is full. when I install a new program, I install in on the storage card....but I'm guess a piece of it goes into program memory...? Anyway program memory is full and thus won't install any additional programs... or allow them to run .... how do I free up program memory without deleting something??
Thanks in advance.

Your 8525 has storage memory and program memory. Storage memory is where programs and files are installed. Program memory is the memory that Windows uses to run. If you are low of storage memory you should be able to do a soft reset and get your memory back (just like on a PC).

If you mean program memory (and you are correct that even when installing to a card some files typically get stored to main memory), you can free up some of that as well. First step would be to open IE and then Menu|Tools|Options|Memory and delete files (this will clear your cache).

Next, get your self a program like MemMaid or SK Tools (which can both be installed to a card, and use these to clean up your "junk" files on a regular basis (both have scheduling options).

Thx, but maybe I wasn't clear as to what was "full"..... If you go to SETTINGS.... Then under MAIN ... you have STORAGE and PROGRAM..... it's the STORAGE that's full..... (not under storage card, not under running programs and not under PROGRAM in the MAIN...... but STORAGE in the MAIN.... it origioanlly had 44.77MB, but now has 1.39 MB left..... how can I free up more space here.. thanks, and sorry if I was confusing the first post.

For storage memory follow the instructions above to clear your IE cache and then look to something like MemMaid or SK Tools (Nate may have referenced a freebee for this, I did not look at the link) and let them go through and clean out junk files. Both have a demo available so you can give the a try first.

If you have a storage card install either of the above to the card. Other things you can do:

Look to reinstall any applications you have installed to your card rather than main memory. Most programs will let you do this. In general Today plugins should run in main memory, but that is not a hard rule.

Take a look at all of the folders in My Documents. MS installs a lot of stuff you may not need (demo pictures, media files, etc.) That can clear a bit if space for you as well.

ok this is what you do make a list of everything you have installed then prioritize the list.

Then get pim back up 2.5 run a back up save to storage card.

Then make sure you make list anything like settings or themes or anything thats not a program or pim (personal information)

Then perform a hard reset. ( this will erase all your data, go to settings, device, clear storage)

Now your at square one, meaning nothing other than oem software.

Now start at the top of your list and work your way down installing everything but opera, tomtom, and google maps to your storage card. Also anything that uses the today screen or any program that changes the actual phone like dial pads or slide locks. Everything else needs to go to your storage card.

When you get to 10mb of storage on your main device stop! Now only use one mp3 ring tone and make sure you save pictures, attachments, and anything else to your storage card. Now run pim backup restoring this time. This will be at least an hour long process so beware.

Its always best to start from scratch, then working your way backwards uninstalling and reinstalling. Its a learning process and now you know to becareful of what you save to your device.
