Hi all,
I have an HP PPC which is about 3 years old now.
It has a major problem.. it seems to be completely dead!
I happened a few months ago.
Then I remembered I had an in-car adaptor and tried that and it powered up and charged.
A coupla weeks later I came back to it and it was dead again and it will not work anywhere. Altho after I plugged it in the screen flashed slightly, just once.
Might I just need a new battery? If the battery was dead wouldn't it still work from mains though? Should I try buying a new battery and hope?
I don't think it's the power supply unit as it's the same in the car.
I guess it's probably just broken
I am depressed.
Any advice?
The battery will drain away over time as it maintains a trickle of power to keep the RAM memory area intact. Once a battery has dropped too low, any charger that routes through the USB connector will not deliver enough power to charge it. Before buying a new battery (which you may need to do in the end), try charging the device using the power supply that came with it and connects through the power jack rather than the USB port. This delivers roughly twice the power and is the only way to charge your device if the battery falls below the critical mark.
You may need to get a new battery as lithium packs can be damaged by a complete drain. Remember that your device uses power even when it is powered down because RAM memory requires a trickle of juice to retain its image and it is that RAM image that lets you have instant-on response. This will suck your battery dry over several days. When leaving your device unused for an extended period, it is much better to remove the main battery. On a device running WM2003SE or earlier, you can backup to a memory card before removing the battery and then restore your system after putting the battery back into the unit.
