How to boost reception w/8125?

I have a Cingular 8125, and work in a hospital where my reception is terrible. I can walk outside and the phone works just fine, so it's not that I'm too far from the nearest tower.
Is there any way to boost reception on my phone?
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks.

you have a radio stack on your phone called a gsm radio also you have a wifi radio both of these are what allow you to make a phone call or get on the internet.

You can check which radio stack you have by going to
settings> system> device information you will see radio version under ROM date

Radio version

Its radio version 2.25
I wasnt aware of it being called a radio version...sorry.
So I downloaded the v2.61
When I went to the AT&T site the other day, their latest download software was 2.25, so should wouldnt they have shown an update?

these higher numbered radio version arent really updates. theyre mostly just radios used by by other stronger carriers. ATT phones are 2.25, Tmobile is 2.26 so thers not much difference between the two. my 2.69 is european (i think) but it works atleast twice as well as the standard 2.25. ive gotten 2 bars in the subway tunnels of my hometown, philly

Correct these are not really updates as far as a service provider pov but since they are new and better I consider them an update. AT&T sux as far as support and you probably know more about these phones than they do. Cingular stopped supporting the 8125 when the 8525 came out, as far as updates anyway, thats why there is know wm6 update provided by them. And Im willing to bet if it wernt for xda developers there wouldnt have been a wm6 update for the 8525 which is still hard for most people to find. And there is a AT&T wm6 update for the 8525 just few know of it.

i agree completely. most AT&T techs are just doin a job they dont really know the devices. it does suck how they just gave up on the 8125 but hey thats business. if they focus on 1 they cant sell the other. the 8525 will fall to the Tilt the same way the 8125 fell to the 8525. like you said XDA is really paving the way so no matter what device yu have, yur cover as far as cool updates.

I downloaded the radio .rar file and extracted it. Then with my 8125 attached via activesync, I attempted to run the .exe file on my computer. I got an error telling me that the file is not a valid win32 application. How do I install this?

Ok, I had overlooked another .exe file from the rar - ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe so I double clicked on it and then I got a ROM update utility with the following ....
"Caution: Installing this update will delete all the information on your PDA phone. Review the readme for important information before continuing."
I was afraid to go on. It's going to delete my phone?? What should I do? There was no readme file in the rar file.

same question

I have a Cingular 8125 as well and have the same kind of issue. I tried to do the radio upgrade but the upgrade said that my device was not compatible.

Turns out that I had to update my ROM with an official version to get my boot loaders to 2.x which included a radio verson 2.25.11. This radio really didn't give me reception in the house so I upgraded to 2.47.11 and I am still testing it. btw there are more than one .exe files in the rar files and if you click on the wrong one it will give you an error.

2.47.11 gave me a connection in places I didn't before but it dropped calls in those spots and drained the battery. Now I have upgraded to 2.61.11 and am testing it. I see more bars in more places. That is a start.
