Cingular 8125
MEdia Net
SYMPTOM: Internet access
FIX:
EXTREMELY IMPORTANT:
Use of the following settings enables the Cingular 8125 to access MEdia Net (WAP) pages using the MEdia Net connection profile.
Additional features such as Wi-Fi and device based e-mail along with other 3rd party applications may not be compatible with the proxy settings associated with the MEdia Net profile.
If there are connection issues with e-mail and/or Wi-Fi, configure and use the My ISP profile to resolve connectivity issues. Please note that, configuring the Cingular 8125 to use My ISP will disable MEdia Net (WAP) web pages when My ISP is used for connectivity. However, regular Internet (HTML) web page browsing will function as normal.
Configuring MEdia Net access on the Cingular 8125:
From the "Start" menu tap Settings.
Tap the Connections tab, select the Connections icon.
Select the Advanced Tab.
Tap Select Networks.
Select MEdia Net.
Tap Edit.
With Cingular GPRS selected tap the Proxy Settings tab.
Verify the following settings then tap the Advanced tab.

This is very useful, except if you're like me and only have your phone as an internet connection and your phone decides to delete the password! lol. I should save this page on my computer! But if you get lucky to get a rep that knows what they are doing, a call to Cingular is helpful for these things if you're having trouble. Also the password IS case sensitive so all caps is correct.
Thank you! I was able to get my T-Mobile SDA to work (former AT&T). I'm still wondering why my Instant Messengers won't work (AIM, ICQ, Yahoo!). All gives connection error. But MSN Messenger works fine.
will this work for htc tytn/cingular 8525...i wanted to get the medianet bundle with unlimited internet because its 20 bucks a month whereas unlimited pda internet is 40.
cingular told me the 8525 wont work with medianet, but they probly just want me to get the 40 dollar plan....
also will cingular tv work? i want that in the medianet bundle and thats just huge if these would both work for 20 bucks a month.
this page very usefull, couple questions once i've changed settins on my cingular 8125 to the WAP(MEDIA NET) can i still connect to WI-FI in any hotspot would i have to go back to settins and change the settins back to MY ISP in order for this to happen, and would i get charged once settins are on back to MY ISP settins or would it be free since its goin through WI-FI.any help would very appreciated
I just got an 8125 and I want to connect to the internet.. but I have no idea how..
This GPRS thing keeps poping up but I think that costs.. I dont want to pay anything :P I heard there is a WI-FI thing where you can just hook up to the internet by connecting to other peoples network (like mine at home, I have dsl)
I pressed the little wifi button at the bottom and clicked connect.. again...and it asked me for the key on my dsl.. I put that in and bam.. it works just like a lap top.. the only thing Im doing now is praying to god I dont get a huge bill next month
i heard someone either on here or somewhere say that if they accidentally did have data usage theyd call their provider right after and say they didnt mean it, and theyd be credited for it (not have to pay) so i would suggest calling and seeing if your using cingulars data...
secondly, i havent tried this program because i have unlimited data usage, but it records all the data you use so you know if you go over your limit, and maybe it shows if you use data on a provider or if its from wi-fi..i dontknow, but worth a shot.
I really dont know what im doing.. Im on the internet on my phone.. can open google.. whatever.. but I dont know if its costing me a thing..
if I click at the toop it says
"connectivity"
"Trun off Wi-fi"
Activesync connected
settings hide
------
now it is connected to my computer so is that why its on the net? man ?I have no idea...
Whenever your device in connected to your computer via ActiveSync you can surf the internet on your device with no charges. Try connecting to Wi-Fi without your device connected to your computer.
If you are worried, call your service provider customer service and double check to see if you have any data charges. You may be able to find more information here in this very lengthy thread.
well, I got all that. You can connect by your computer.
When you connect to wifi a thing comes up that says "internet" or "work" you just press connect and it asks you for your id # on the bottom of your dsl modem. I dont think that costs BUT
If you try to open the internet without being on the internet it says "connecting to GPRS" Thats what costs I think... I just press cancel and if taht doesnt work I go to the bottom icon thingy that takes you to the
Bluetooth
Wifi
GPRS
Mail thingy
Sound
and Avtive sync
and I disconnect there. The only thing is, while your there you can click the wifi icon to connect to wifi, but it wont let me click on the gprs (its geryed out) Im thinking because I havent payed for it, but it will let me connect to it anyways if I open internet explorer.
