What items seem to be missing? If they are bundled with the OS, then a hard reset should restore them since that resets the device to as close to out-of-box condition as you can get. If they are for software you added, then you need to reinstall the apps or restore your system from a backup. If they are apps you installed to a memory card, then removing the card would make them unavailable to the system to read the icons that are stored as part of the exe or dll file.
