Mine died last week too. Mine was still under warranty with Cingular which is 12 months. Call 800-801-1101 and they will send you a new one after asking you a few question. I didn't pay for add'l shipping and got it in 2 business days.
From my experience, once the phone dies, you have a couple of options:
1. If still under warranty, call or head to your local corporate AT&T store and they may be able to give you a new battery. I had to go to 3 locations before one of them had it (back in April). Most don't carry them anymore.
2. Since I had misplaced the original charger, I tried using the car charger and had some success but it quickly died again. I was using a random motorola charger to keep it charged which worked fine, BUT ---don't bother using any other charger once your phone dies except the original one it came with. I had it hooked to that motorola charger for almost a day and the phone just sat there with no sign of life. What did work recently: hooking it up to my new Dell laptop using the original USB cable the phone came with. I tried this even though I was told this would never work, but I was desperate. After about an hour, the red light came on! I was able to turn the phone on and confirmed that it was now being charged. What a relief!
3. As previously posted by another user, AT&T will send you another phone (if still under warranty), however, mine did not come with a battery so it defeated the purpose! I had to call customer service and do my own legwork. I was told AT&T does not carry the battery and can't send it to you. They referred me to HTC to order one, which I had to pay for since HTC and AT&T don't have an agreement to send the battery out to their customers at no charge. AT&T issued me a credit for the cost of the battery, but I had to fight for it.
4. Having learned all this the hard way, I now have an extra battery and the original charger on hand at all times. I also check the battery meter regularly. When you get that low battery warning message, do yourself a favor and don't ignore it, hook it up to a phone/car/laptop charger asap!!
