how can I prevent web sites from thinking I am visiting them from a mobile device? some web sites prevent access to certain content when being accessed from a mobile device, but the pocketpc on a wifi network offers more power and capabilities than a typical mobile browser.
This is a common tweak included in apps like Tweaks2k2, which provide a toggle that changes the PIE identification to IE 6. This only changes the way the browser identifies itself, it does not add any functionality. If the issue is one of unsupported functions, you will need to look at an alternate browser like Opera, NetFront, Minimo, or Webby.
Then I suspect the issue is related to actual browser function. This could be related to a Java applet, ActiveX controls, unsupported Flash content, etc. You will need to try an alternate browser. Check those I noted above. Webby and Minimo are freeware, Opera and NetFront are commercial but have free trials.
I have happened onto a freeware app whose sole purpose is to facilitate the toggling of PIE self-identification to various spoofed browsers as well as back to PIE when you wish to use mobile sites. You simply need to run it when PIE is not in memory. I have found it the quickest and easiest method for switching PIE identity settings. Just keep in mind that changes are only to identification info and no actual browser functions are added.
The app is called TogglePIE and it is available from Trevor's PocketPC Apps at www.pocketpcapps.net
