during the day whem im out in the car if i run my magic button it shows active synch is running or open how can i make sure active synch doesnt try to open? cheers once again
Open ActiveSync on your device and under Options, disable using Mobile Schedule and/or change the Mobile Schedule options to Manually. That should keep your AS from launching and looking for your sync host.

WDR,
SPB Software's (DRAT! my 8525 just croaked!) PPC something-or-other gives you control over the "X" button. One option is Close All. It will terminate activeSynch like a 3 wood terminates a rattler.
I like that program AND, fortunately, have the SPB Backup, so 8525 #2 will get off the blocks not missing a lick.
That will shut it down but it will simply launch again later when the mobile schedule interval has elapsed. You need to change the mobile schedule settings to stop the ActiveSync auto-launch behavior.

YJ,
You are quite correct.
New 8525 (#2) arrived today (Monday).
Took your advice to change mobile schedule, but:
Menu > Options has no schedule controls, and
Menu > Schedule is grayed and won't activate.
Thus, activeSynch won't submit to manual control.
I am running ActiveSynch v4.2 from 8525 Install CD.
Any ideas?

Julie on Mobilitysite found a workaround for HP devices that may also work for you. It involves creating a dummy server to gain access to the schedule menu selection. This should be done when your device is not connected to a host PC.
1. Start ActiveSync on your device.
2. Go to Menu...Add Server Source
3. For Server Address, use 1.1.1.1 and on the Next screen, use xxx as User Name, Password, and Domain, then tap through to Finish.
4. Go to Menu and you should now be able to select Schedule.
5. Set both windows to Manual.
6. Finally, delete the fake exchange server. Go to Menu...Option, highlight the Exchange Server, tap Delete, and respond 'Yes' to the Warning message.
It used to be so much simpler. HP has fixed this for some of their devices with a ROM update which lets the user access the Schedule menu option without this hassle, so there is hope. Let us know if this works.

YJ,
THANK YOU!
WorkAround works as advertised.
No clue how much cpu time ActiveSync sops up, but the 8525 "feels" snappier with AS shutdown. Wishful? Probably.
Your lament is well understood. <grn>
What is viewed as simpler now was, in its day incredibly complex. First computer I programmed was an 8K IBM 1401. . . bugs could actually nest amongst the iron memory cores. . .
It sounds as though the Schedule options in WM5 ActiveSync require an exchange server setup to activate access. I suspect you might need to do the dummy server routine again if you want to change the schedule options and do not have a real server connection set up.
As a Palm only guy forever, I'm finding this forum to be one of the friendliest and most informative I've ever come across. Thanks so much to all for sharing.
