Notes from PPC (8525) to Outlook -aaarrrgh!

Fellow travelers on the darkSide,
I am humbled to seek help in this NonPalmEnvironment.

Notes twixt Palm OS and Outlook passed back and forth without problems.

However, with this (now) beloved 8525, Notes are confined to either Outlook or the 8525.

Likely, the problem is "where" they MUST be located.
WinMob 5.0 seems terrified (generally) of a 2g micro SD. Yet, that is where I would REALLY prefer to park "content" such as Notes.

Having Notes migrate to the PC is ever so helpful.

Oh, did I mention I tried to "help" MicroShaft with the Beta ActiveSync? No? Well, that mistake screwed up my Notes synching with a perpetual "Needs Attention" error msg.

So, I went back to activeStink 4.2(?). Notes won't synch. Everything else runs like a hose, but NOTES won't. I'm outa ideas. . .

Please, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thx,
PP

Try this:

Go to Notes > Menu > Options
There you have the option to change where you want the notes to be stored.

See if that works for you - I set a location for my notes, and then sync'd - all the notes from desktop outlook copied over to my phone, no problems.

When I make a new note (in either) it syncs fine...

Thank you, BrainC.
Close, but not solid yet.
Here's the way Notes synch on my 8525:
1) If Notes are in \My Documents of Main Memory, they synch with Outlook
2) If Notes are in ANY Storage Card folder (root or \My Documents, or whatever), they do NOT synch with Outlook

New Notes will save based on your above:
1) Main Memory - \My Documents\My Documents and will not synch due 2nd level
2) Storage Card - Root directory and will not synch

Using "All Folders" for Notes update seems to get ALL Notes regardless of locations (folders).

So, as a workaround, I can permit Notes (new) to create in Main \My Documents\My Documents or in Storage Card\, then Cut/Paste to Main \My Documents and Synch works okey dokey.

The downside to WinMob Notes is its inability to recognize Outlook Categories and its propensity to simply "shoebox" ALL Notes.

Perhaps there are better WinMob Notes apps?

Best,
PP

Update on Outlook (2003) Notes (WinMob 5.0) Synch issues:

Upside -
If Notes are in PPC Main Memory \My Documents\My Notes - they Synch

Downside-
Notes created by PPC have no provision for Outlook Category. Thus, there is no organization in the PPC unless the First Line (File Name) is used skillfully.
To organize by Outlook Categories (after Synch) requires 2nd data touch.

Plan to eval PhatNotes Pro.
More later.

Actually, it is probably prudent to re-think the Notes application.
Under Palm OS 4.x and Outlook 2003, Notes could carry categories, although Palm limited them to 15 or so.

Having, for instance, all the Men's World Cup race results and Standings for several years in Notes format seemed important. Also, favorite quotations and passwords and other long lists of "stuff" made the WinMob 5.x treatment irritating.

However, most of that stuff can be in Xcel or Word files and I would be just as pleased. Those options were really, really difficult in the Palm 4.x platform.

SO, I'm fixin' to "live" with what WM 5.x delivered.
Re-systematize my thinking.
Assimilate the knowledge freely available around this forum.

Then, decide how to better "fix" what really may not need fixin'.

Irritating to say the least!!!

ActiveSync dumps Outlook notes into the top level directory... what half-witted programmer came up with this idea? Half a day of effort and they could have world-class Outlook Note integration!!!! I can't even begin to express my frustration (especially coming from Palm).

Notes are unique in the way they are created and used.. word and excel can't replace them.

Well I admire your view. I'm trying to do the same but so far my frustration level with WM5 is over the top.

It's sad that you have to spend $399 on the 8525 then spend a week ($$ time is money) and find 3rd party apps (more $$) to do what a PDA should do in the first place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I miss Palm, but I can't find anything like the 8525 that runs PalmOS.
