Screen Alignment Settings WILL NOT Stick! (8125)

Over the last week, i've been noticing that i've had to re-align the screen on my 8125. I havent recently added new programs, but what I notice in addition to this issue is that sometimes Opera will NOT close even when i've tried to shut it down from the Task Manager and using Magic Button. Usually when this happens, i hafta do a soft-reset THEN shortly after re-align the screen.

Anybody else having issues with screen alignment settings not sticking???

Sounds like a hard reset is in your near future...I know people who hard reset monthly, just to keep their devices fresh.

Me, I try to avoid it as much as possible...but usually I end up hard resetting every couple of months.

A soft reset is like rebooting your computer.

A hard reset is like reformatting your hard drive, erasing everything, and reinstalling everything from scratch.

Forgive me if i am mistaken, but i believe the 8125 is just same device as the T-Mo MDA. I have found that if i carry it in my pocket or throw it in my purse i have to constantly align the screen. If i keep it in the cheap little case that came in the box, not so much. Also i can't even use a screen protector because it doesn't recognize any touches. Seems to be a design flaw in the frame around the screen. I have seen other mentions of this in other forums. So for now, just keep aligning!

I am always alligning my screen. Don't know why but if I dont its hard to use onscreen keyboard. I'm either a full letter left or right of actual letter I want to type.

I have a Cingular 8125 and I to also have to realign at least 10x a day. What sucks is that my Cing is already out of warranty. Does anyone know if this is strictly a hardware or software issue? Also, does anyone know what registry setting stores the alignment info?

WELCOME TO MY WORLD!!!! I have to re-align mine constantly! But i like to keep my phones in my pocket so I think that's where the issue is. It's picky about where it is and doesn't really like to be kept in warm compact places like a pocket or purse. Might be the heat or may be the constant pressure against the screen. I notice what works for me is re-aligning it THEN do a soft reset (power off then on). But I do also see that I usually have to do a re-alignment after I install new programs also. But try the align then reboot. Should help.

This seems to be happening to so many people, I had to investigate further.

There seems to be reports of similar issues with some earlier Hermes/8525/TyTn devices; see here. Basically, it looks like there is a physical cause to the alignment drift - the touchscreen extends beyond the top cover of the device, and a piece of foam or rubber under the top cover presses against the hidden part of the touchscreen, causing the drift.

This post documents one user's DIY method of removing the sponge piece, but it involves taking the entire device apart - which of course, is very dangerous AND will void your warranty.

If your device is still under warranty, take it back!

I read on some other forums, this a very common problem with the 8125.

*One "fix" mentioned was to take your finger and press down all along the outside edge of the touchscreen - in essence, trace an outline of the touchscreen with your finger - to make sure it is seated correctly and evenly at all corners. (Be sure to wrap your finger in something soft to avoid scratching the screen)

*Another thing to try - if any of you are using screen protectors, try removing them to see if the problem goes away. This could help isolate the problem.

I think it all goes back to the extra foam/rubber piece I mentioned above. Sad to see such a popular device with such a huge flaw / defect in it.

Good luck to all~

Contact Cingular directly, or the place you bought your 8125 from?
