I tried downloading pocketgoogle and my device informed me that I don't have .net 2.0 on my MDA. Is this something I can download? I tried searching for a mobile version but was unsuccessful. Any tips would be great. Thx.
You want the .Net Compact Framework. I think that you need to download the desktop installer and install it over ActiveSync. It is available on the Microsoft site. Since it is a freebie, you might find the installation .cab file at freecabs.de; this would run directly on your device.
The most current version goes by the delightful name .NET Compact Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 Redistributable. Do not be afraid of the install file size; the portion that goes to your device is only a fraction of the download.
here is a link for anybody else net2.0
.NET Compact Framework is an indispensable runtime for any program in our database that has been developed with .NET. This runtime does nothing on its own.
Although an older version (1.x) is supplied with the ROM on all machines running Windows Mobile 2003, it needs to be installed on machines with Pocket PC 2000 and Pocket PC 2002. It still appears in the list of installed programs along with all the other applications.
At the moment, many programs need the 2.x version which must be installed as it is not included in any ROM yet. The new SP1 version can be installed on a storage card and you don't need to use the tweaks described on this page. If I consistently used Google as my primary mobile search engine, it looks like it would be much easier to deal with visually than their standard search site. I don't think Google handled their mobile search setup as well as Ask.com, Yahoo, or even MSN. The free-standing aspect is a littgle strange, though; I will definitely give you that.
The file that you download from Microsoft.com is supposed to be run on your PC? Or should I copy and paste it from my laptop to my storage card? I'm new to Pocket PC's and I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm trying new programs and it says that I need to install a new .NET framework as well. I have a cingular 8125. Thanks for the help!!
