Hi. I am having problems getting my phone to play my MP3 as a ringtone. I have placed an MP3 in the Windows/Rings folder and also tried the Applications Data/Sounds folder, but while I am able to see the MP3 as a selection, I can not get the phone to use it as a ringtone. Even though I can select the MP3, I can not hear the test play nor will it allow me to save the configuration. The phone opts to one of the preset ringtones.
I have read a couple of threads where this problem is discussed, but the answer was a "never mind I figured it out" scenario without the answer posted. What is the answer?
As it turns out. Ringtones worked only after much frustration and hard resetting the device. I don't know what I did to the device to keep it from working. Amazing what damage can be done in just two days of use. I just wish I could get my wifi to work.
Thanks. The MP3's worked after the hard reset. I'll be transcoding to a lower bitrate to save space however. By the way, for those who want a little program to trim their mp3's down to size, you can use MPTrim. I think I have an older version, but it has no registry installs and is quite small. Works well enough for this purpose.
Ugh. It happened again despite the reset. It may be a program that I have installed since it worked immediately after the reset. The suggestion above worked. Transcoding it to WMA works really well. Thanks for that suggestion.
I have never had any problems useing a mp3 as a ring tone, but one of my co-workers has always had trouble. i use mp3 clips that are 15 to 20 seconds and they work great, and i use Audacity with Lame for mine. And my co-worker is now useing it and has no more problems.
Hello, I have an cingular 8125 and can use mp3 files for my ringtones, however i cant tell it when to start the mp3 file. It just starts it at the beggining of the song. DOes anyone know of a place where I can go to "cut" the song and have it start at a specific point. I used to go to mobil 17 when i had my razr but that site does not support the 8125. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Use audacity to edit the song before you upload it to your phone.
jharper, a hard reset will erase everything and set it brand new like you just took it out the box. Whatever the issue is, try a soft reset first... a soft reset is like rebooting your PC computer. For the 8125 you want to press the button located on the right side of your device with your stylus. Hope this helps!
I had this as well, the way round it is definitely to convert to a WAV, as our friend said earlier. I use a programme called goldwave, great for making ringtones, and free!
Lot of you talked so much here, but i am not able to decipher any steps to make my ringtone work. Can anyone please put in step by step instruction on how to get my own ring tone working. I'm very new to 8125 just a day old.
