hey all! I am technically retarded (as my name indicates), but i got the 8125 because i'm on the road all the time and the functionality is perfect for me.
is there a way to set up my wireless connection so that I can pick up internet service from any wireless router that i either have the security password or it's an open connection? And if I set my phone up this way, does that mean I can only get internet when I am in one of these WiFi areas? or when I am not, I can connect to the EDGE network?
I really have no clue how to use stuff like this, but I am trying to learn...i want to be able to fully use this phone to its potential
any help, tips, tricks are greatly appreciated (and not just on this one matter! anything to make the phone faster and/or better)
basically, as long as you have wifi turned on, your phone should be able to pick up the wifi signals and ask you if you want to connect to the network. if the network your trying to access requires a key, it'll tell u. If you have a dataplan with cingular, you should be able to connect to edge or cingular gprs as well. Keep in mind, UNLESS YOU REMOVE MEDIANET (cingular gprs), you will be charged depending on how much data is sent.
Programs like Wififofum or Mininetstumbler will allow u to "see" where wifi signals are in your area.
