all u hafta do is FIRST edit the song u want to become a ringtone, that way your not sucking up too much space on your phone. When i say Edit, i mean like...if u ONLY wanted the chorus of the song to be your ringtone, u'd hafta cut out ONLY that part of the song and save it as either mp3 or wav. After u've edited the song, all u hafta do is connect your phone to your pc (by way of USB), then either copy & paste or drag and drop your newly edited wav or mp3 file into the Windows/Rings folder. After doing that, you go Start>Settings>Phone and your new ringtone should be there.
this is what u do. you connect the cable that came with the phone to your computer. A program called "ActiveSync" should pop up. Click Tools, then click Explore Pocket Pc. You should see something there that says Microsoft Mobile Device (or something similar), double click on that. From there, you should see a Windows Folder...double click that. In that Windows Folder, there will be a folder named Rings. Double Click the rings folder. This is where you are going to need to save your ringtones. An easy way to do it is to open the folder that has your mp3s, then click and drag the file into the Rings folder.
the whole tricky part is editing the mp3 so your ringtone is ONLY the part you want.
here's what i do, use activesync and drag and drop my mp3 into my storage card and it auto into my ringtone section and i really do not want to edit the song cause sometimes i wanted to listen to it aslo saves memory storage.
You will need that windows folder... after connecting your device to your computer via activesync, click the explore button. Then double-click 'My Windows Mobile-Based Device', after that double-click on 'Windows' folder. Hope this helps and let me know if you run into anymore problems.
the reason you DONT see a windows folder is because its hidden. Open any folder (yeah, ANY FOLDER), click Tools> Folder Options>View Tab...then under " Hidden Files and Folders", click "Show hidden files and folders". Then click apply and ok.
you get the mp3s just the same way you would as if you wanted to get them on the computer; you either buy them (via iTunes, Napster etc) or you download them illegally thru peer-to-peer networks (kazaa, limewire, soul seek) or even from message boards.
the tricky part is finding/using a program that can help u edit the song exactly how u want it to sound when ur getting a call.

bzawaduk, theres a program called Audacity, all you do is find the song you want to edit, load it into the program, cut away and make it however short you want it to be, then save. After that you can just upload it to your phone. For some reason their site isn't working right now, but just go to google and search for "Audacity" it should be the first link.
for MP3's you can also "Rip" one of your CD's with windows media player- so it makes a copy of your cd as an mp3. you can make your own MP3's for CD's you currently own.
I put my mp3 files on the storage card, and find that my pocket pc finds all ringtones from that location with no problem- so I am able to use all my mp3 files as ringtones. Other subfolders on the storage card do not seem to work, except for the main root directory on the card.
hi guys, i recently purchased 8125, i can play mp3 files as ringtones. my problem is that recently i installed new applications on my ppc all of the sudden it wont play my mp3 ringtones, it just goes back to windows default, what happened? i try to delete the mp3 and have it installed again but theres this pop up that says it cant be played...some part or program is missing... that i have to reinstall it again. anyway i tried to uninstall all those programs i recently added and still it wont play my mp3 as ringtones. i installed divx player for ppc and mpeg pocket tv viewer. im trying to do a hard reset and try to start from step 1 just to bring it back the way it was before but my ppc wont restart, im doing what the manual says on how to hard restart my ppc. what do i do now? thanks
i have installed all my applications on the storage card instead of the phone- that might be why you are having problems. I remember seeing somewhere that there is not much storage availablity on board the 8125. first try removing the apps.
Also- all my mp3's are in the root directory of the storage card, and the first one i searched for there- to use - seems like that became the default search location- all mp3's stored there are showing up as available choices for ringtones.
I've understood, and performed all of the steps given by all of the members above, but i have one problem, my phone restricts the size of the files that can be used as ringtones. So far the largest file i've been able to use is around 250K. Is there anything i can do to lift this restriction to make whatever size file i want a ringtone? I have a Moto q 9h global with wm6 if that makes it any easier.
Thanks for all the help so far. This is a lot cheaper and a not too difficult alternative to using one of those ringtone software apps.
Is there documentation to that effect? On my 8125 (Cingular) there is little memory for anything- so mp3's and programs have to be put on the mini SD chip (added memory). since I have windows media player- I can play songs, but in selecting ringtones- I just surfed to where the music was and it lets me make these the ringtones so I do not have to strip it down to the bare minimum or compress to lose sound quality, etc.
