8125 Issues... Need Help!

Hi There,

I have had numerous phone calls with my Carrier for the 8125 and no tech can help me. I have had issues off an on for months now. Every no and again I can not send or recieve my emails.... after a few soft starts the system will magically allow me to send and recieve normally. I get a message... "mesages cannot be downloaded to you mobile device. Make sure you are connected and that your email account settings are correct". My cingular connection to the edge network is very strong when this happens. Also after using my alarm clock for the first time, i noticed that I could not turn the alarm clock off... it will shut down after a good 10minutes of running. I have cleaned out the 8125 thinking I might be terribly low on resources, but I have not done a hard reset. I do not know how to save the 200 or so contacts and email addresses that I have stored in the device. Please send any suggestions, I love the phone when it works....

Welcome to Pocket PC Addict morrow! I rarely would suggest a hard reset at first blush, but I think that it might be worth it this round. To save your contacts, you need to install ActiveSync on your desktop and Outlook as well. Once you have your contacts syncronized and everything else backed up, you should be able to perform a hard reset as described in this thread.

Let us know if it helps!

I just want make sure that I am doing this correctly. On a side note... where can I send the wav files to use as a alarm or alert? Thanks for all your advice.

Once you connect the phone you have to create a partnership. If you have Outlook installed then your contacts should show up in there. You need to open up Outlook to intialize everything first. Once you confirm that your contacts are on there, remove your memory card and perform the hard reset.

You can place the .wav files in your \Windows\Rings folder to use them as alarms or alerts.

Let us know what happens!

Ok I have tried to sync the phone to outlook and I get errors! It says the outlook user is pasword protected, I tried to make a new user profile but I received the same thing. Am I doing someting wrong? Is there something I need to setup on the phine proir to syncing with Outlook? Also when I sync to the PC I have no Windows/Rings folder, do I need to create this?
Thanks again!

Let's do one thing at a time... if you are getting that error, you might have to delete your partnership and start over. You can do this by going to ActiveSync and then Files and then Delete Partnership. Once you do this, plug your 8125 back in and try again, the error should go away. Also, make sure that you have ran Outlook at least once before doing this.

Once you take care of this we'll look at the Rings. Sorry that you are having problems, hope to get this squared away!

I was able to get the Pocket PC and the computer outlook synced! I performed the hard start and it appears to have taken care of all the errors I was seeing, I was able to easily load all my contacts and setting on the 8125 again. I can not access my email on my work server anylonger, I think it is a server link setting, I will have my IT look at it tomorrow. Thanks for all the help. If you get a chance help me figure out how to use the wav files as sounds for alarms and alerts and such. Thanks again.

Tim question for ya. I have my 8125 synched to my pc at work. The only time I pick up my emails from work though are when my phone is plugged in. How can I get my phone to notify me when I get new emails at work. Basically an always connected link between the two. Is this the Expressmail thing Cingular offers? I was thinking there would be a way to use my phone for all my email access even if I'm not inthe office.

One way to remain always connected to work email (the way i use) is if your Work has an exchange server with OWA installed. in other words, they have an online login where you can check your email from outside the network. then you can give Activesync on your phone the link to the server, your credentials, and your domain, and the phone will connect through the data connection on the cellular network to download your emails, contacts, calendar information, etc. you DO want to have the unlimited data plan, though. otherwise you'll be a very sad and poor person.

morrow, where are you looking? Make sure that you double click on the "My Windows Based-Mobile Device" icon and try placing your WAV files in just the \Windows folder. That should do the trick! Let us know!
