I have a Sprint PPC-6700, which comes with Wifi, EVDO, BlueTooth, etc. My question is regarding using my phone as a wireless bridge or router.
For example, my phone connects to the Internet over EVDO; would it then be possible to use my phone's WiFi connection as a wireless bridge, a la Internet Connection Sharing on Windows and Mac? The idea would be that I could connect my laptop via 802.11 to the phone's WiFi signal, and essentially use my phone as a wireless router.
It seems that this would be a fairly straightforward implementation of NAT & DHCP, especially since this type of scenario already exists on PC and Mac computers. For example, on my laptop I can route my Ethernet's Internet connection through my wireless card, turning my computer into a wireless router and base station. Considering it would obviate the need to have a separate WiFi access account in airports, coffee shops, and other public spaces, I would think that this would be a highly sought-after feature... But for the life of me, i can't seem to figure out how to get this configuration to work on my phone.
Anybody have any idea on how to do this? Forgive me if this is covered elsewhere in the forums......
Welcome to Pocket PC Addict EhrenZoner! That's a great idea.
I haven't done my research on this but I'd venture a guess out there any say that it wouldn't work for a few reasons:
1. Your Pocket PC isn't powerful enough for such a task.
2. Your Pocket PC doesn't have NAT and DHCP capabilities. I guess you could try to just set up a static IP but I doubt it would work.
3. I believe that CDMA phones don't allow you to use WiFi and EVDO at the same time (at least I know the Verizon version doesn't).
If there's a hack out there, someone will find it. Let us know if you find information elsewhere.
