T-Mobile Internet Settings for T-Mobile MDA and Windows Mobile 5 Phone Edition

Here's settings I found on T-Mobile's Wireless Data Configurator Website for T-Mobile t-zones, T-MobileWeb, MMS, and T-Mobile Internet. This tutorial is specifically designed for the T-Mobile MDA, but it should work on other (unlocked) Windows Mobile 5.0 Phone Edition devices as well.

T-Mobile t-zones and T-MobileWeb:

Want to browse Web sites, check the weather, and get directions on your phone? Use these settings to set up Internet access on your phone using t-zones and T-MobileWeb. You can then further configure your device using My T-Mobile to take advantage of all the additional features that t-zones provides.

EDIT: You can also try this before trying setting up your settings manually follow this link to see what cab. you need to download and install and full instructions.

Wow! That means goodbye T-Mobile WiFi payments!

Yup, but I'm not sure if there are extra costs for the tethering. Is their a separate plan for T-Mobile Internet as opposed to t-zones for the T-Mobile MDA? If not... we might have a winner here...

Tim:
Up to last night I swear I saw the offer for Internet - GPRS only at $20; but apparently someone at TMobile got smart....
I have a plan with Internet + WiFi at $30
my MDA doesn't use T-Zones ($5 per month), so that's no solution.
so I guess we didn't get the winning option...

But thanks for the alternative, anyway!!!

I say when you know you are at the end of your billing cycle give tethering a shot and see if they charge you anything! It's worth the extra money to find out anyway. I rather find out that they are charging you extra then sitting in the dark!

OK, Tim...
let's try it next week. I don't think they'll charge extra, but we'll find out if we can use the GPRS as a source of Internet for my laptop...

For non Wi-Fi places, of course....

no t-zones saves money

so... word to you t-mobile users

if you ask for the blackberry unlimited internet plan, it will save you about 15 bucks... it is internet without t-zones. I got that and unlimited textmessages for 34.99 which is not bad, but still robbery ontop of 39.99 plan.

I also got my MDA from amazon with a 70 dollar rebate at 69.99 and then two days later, price drops to 49.99 with $20 back, instead of free. sigh.

timing is everything.

successful connecting as modem, though edge network is not as fast as driving around and finding an unsecured wifi )

they might give you trouble for getting a blackberry plan, but just insist on it, tell them to talk to their manager (i doubt they do) I have been on the phone with t-mobile about ten times in teh past month and they will actually do anything for you if you are persistent... if one rep doesnt give it to you, call back and get another cause they might know more or be a bit nicer. always be cordial, and persistent. clearly tell them you want the cheaper blackberry unlimited plan and yes you have an mda but it will still work.

i love the mda by the way.

Hello,

Does the blackberry plan/mda combo work right out of the box? Other than hotspots, is there anything that wouldn't be supported using this combo? I have a BB Unlimited plan, my phone died, and I'd like to get an mda withouth having to renew my t-mobile contract.

Thanks

If I remember correctly, Blackberry is a very different technology from HTML... so I don't know if it would work directly with your MDA...
Please let me know if it does!

Cant get to the server button on my MDA

Hi and thanks for the great info.. I tried to set up my MMS on my MDA. I get there like this:
1) Start
2) Messaging
3)Menu
4)Tools
5) Options

At this point I can see Text Messages, my email acct, and MMS, I tap MMS
6) Servers Tab
At this point, The "New" and the "Set as Default" boxes are "grayed out" and I cannot access them. The server in the list says T-Mobile MMS, but I cant change it or delete it.

Any Ideas?

The reason I am doing this, is when I receive a MMS, it only has limited info, no message, just a subject line, and no media.

THanks for the help!

MDA as a Modem

Not sure if this was answered I use my Mda as a modem for my Laptop not bad on speed much faster than dial up. it's charged to your T-mobile minutes.

First I set up phone to do so Programs/Modemlink/change connetion to USB then activate on bottom now for the Laptop Dial*99# in network connections no user name no password only field typed in is Dial

Make sure when you disconnect change phone from USB back to comm
or you wont be able to use it normally.

This is really useful when traveling... I'll have to try it...
But... are you paying for the Internet connection to your phone?

or are you calling a dial-up Internet service such as NetZero?

Thanks in advance for your info...

mda modem connection

I feel DUMB!! Had MDA for awhile and struggled to create modem conn. for my laptop. I found out that the setup CD that came with the phone has a HTC modem dialer on it that must be installed on your laptop. Just use *99# as the number to dial and make sure all other fields are blank in the dialer . click modem link on mda and activate, plug it into laptop and BAM!!!!InstANT INTERNET.

Hi there... I know this is an old post, but I'm having this exact issue. MMS used to work perfectly, then one day stopped. Was there ever any resolution to this issue? I really don't want to do a hard reset!

My query is related to the original post of access points. I've been trying to initate a vpn (pptp) through the general.t-mobile.uk access point on the mda vario. I did cheat a few months back and used a dialup 0845 number to create an internet connection via an ISP server but this obviously cost me a fortune but at least it did work.. do you know if the wap.voicestream.com access point would allow this vpn traffic (is there a username & password for logging into that accesspoint) or would i have to buy the webnwalk package
