Cingular MediaNet Settings for Cingular 8125 and Windows Mobile 5 Phone Edition

Here is a great tutorial found on Cingular's support website. This mainly talks about the Cingular 8125 but it also works with other Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Phone Edition devices. If you deleted your settings or your have an unlocked/unbranded device, this tutorial is for you.

Verifying Connection Settings on the Cingular 8125 for MEdia Net Access.

EDIT: You can now easily download and install a cingular/ at&t settings cab. from our server, it is a great cab. developed by Shogunmark over at xda developers and you can download it here.

SUBJECT:
Verifying Connection Settings on the Cingular 8125 for MEdia Net Access.
Setting the browser and APN settings on the Cingular 8125.
Setting the browser settings on the Cingular 8125.
Setting the APN on the Cingular 8125.

FACT:
Windows Mobile 5.0
Cingular 8125
MEdia Net

SYMPTOM: Internet access

FIX:

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT:
  • Use of the following settings enables the Cingular 8125 to access MEdia Net (WAP) pages using the MEdia Net connection profile.
  • Additional features such as Wi-Fi and device based e-mail along with other 3rd party applications may not be compatible with the proxy settings associated with the MEdia Net profile.
  • If there are connection issues with e-mail and/or Wi-Fi, configure and use the My ISP profile to resolve connectivity issues. Please note that, configuring the Cingular 8125 to use My ISP will disable MEdia Net (WAP) web pages when My ISP is used for connectivity. However, regular Internet (HTML) web page browsing will function as normal.
Configuring MEdia Net access on the Cingular 8125:
  1. From the "Start" menu tap Settings.
  2. Tap the Connections tab, select the Connections icon.
  3. Select the Advanced Tab.
  4. Tap Select Networks.
  5. Select MEdia Net.
  6. Tap Edit.
  7. With Cingular GPRS selected tap the Proxy Settings tab.
  8. Verify the following settings then tap the Advanced tab.
    • This network connects to the Internet: Checked
    • This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet: Checked
  9. Tab the HTTP field, enter the following settings and tap ok.
    • Server: wireless.cingular.com
    • Port: 80
  10. Tap the Socks field, enter the following settings and tap ok twice.
    • Server: localhost
    • Port: 1080
    • Type: Socks 4
  11. Tap the Modem tab.
  12. Tap Cingular GPRS and tap Edit.
  13. Enter a name for the connection. From the "Select a modem" drop-down, select Cellular Line (GPRS) and tap Next.
  14. In the "Access point name" field enter wap.cingular and tap Next.
  15. Verify the following profile settings then tap Advanced:
  16. Verify the following settings and tap Ok.
    • Use server assigned IP address: Selected
    • Use specific IP address: Unselected
    • Use software compression: Unchecked
    • Use IP header compression: Checked
  17. Tap Finish.
  18. Tap Ok.

  19. Attempt a connection to MEdia Net
If problem persists, please contact Cingular Customer Care.

NOTE: APN: Access Point Name

This is very useful, except if you're like me and only have your phone as an internet connection and your phone decides to delete the password! lol. I should save this page on my computer! But if you get lucky to get a rep that knows what they are doing, a call to Cingular is helpful for these things if you're having trouble. Also the password IS case sensitive so all caps is correct.

Thank you! I was able to get my T-Mobile SDA to work (former AT&T). I'm still wondering why my Instant Messengers won't work (AIM, ICQ, Yahoo!). All gives connection error. But MSN Messenger works fine.

cingular told me the 8525 wont work with medianet, but they probly just want me to get the 40 dollar plan....

also will cingular tv work? i want that in the medianet bundle and thats just huge if these would both work for 20 bucks a month.

i heard someone either on here or somewhere say that if they accidentally did have data usage theyd call their provider right after and say they didnt mean it, and theyd be credited for it (not have to pay) so i would suggest calling and seeing if your using cingulars data...

secondly, i havent tried this program because i have unlimited data usage, but it records all the data you use so you know if you go over your limit, and maybe it shows if you use data on a provider or if its from wi-fi..i dontknow, but worth a shot.

Whenever your device in connected to your computer via ActiveSync you can surf the internet on your device with no charges. Try connecting to Wi-Fi without your device connected to your computer.

If you are worried, call your service provider customer service and double check to see if you have any data charges. You may be able to find more information here in this very lengthy thread.

hehe

well, I got all that. You can connect by your computer.
When you connect to wifi a thing comes up that says "internet" or "work" you just press connect and it asks you for your id # on the bottom of your dsl modem. I dont think that costs BUT
If you try to open the internet without being on the internet it says "connecting to GPRS" Thats what costs I think... I just press cancel and if taht doesnt work I go to the bottom icon thingy that takes you to the
Bluetooth
Wifi
GPRS
Mail thingy
Sound
and Avtive sync

and I disconnect there. The only thing is, while your there you can click the wifi icon to connect to wifi, but it wont let me click on the gprs (its geryed out) Im thinking because I havent payed for it, but it will let me connect to it anyways if I open internet explorer.

is there anyway to disable it for...ever?

thanks

thanks for the help here... my only question is, how do i make the settings remember/keep the password? it seems about every day that it somehow mysteriously goes back to that ******************** long incorrect password and i have to manually change it back to the "cingular1". thanks! kostar

i just forgot to mention that I'm a Smart Communications subscriber.
I'm just guessing that i should ask there technical support engineers of whatever configuration blah blahs that i need to make this set up work.
I perhaps forgot some "whatevers' to activate my wifi

The above posted is using cingular network, perhaps you could help me set it all up Mr. Tim.
Counting on you.
Godbless!

Man, havent been on here in a while. I'm making jewelry now lol

Um, make sure you put in the wep key located on the bottom of your modem to make the wifi work... that should be all you have to do. There are three different numbers, it's the one under the upc, but you can try them all

MMS and Disabled MediaNet

Hey I had a quick question,

I am going to buy a cingular 8125 in about 3 or 4 days and I have an unlimited Text, Picture, Video, etc. package. Before when I shut off my medianet connection with cingular, I wasn't able to send pictures and videos. I will be using the wi-fi instead of the medianet, so if i shut off the medianet (by the instruction given) will this interfere with multimedia messages?

Getting the MEdia Net service from AT&T soon. Does this cab still work for their service, or should I use another one. Using a Siemens SX66 device.

Thanks so much!

To verify that you are not using at&t internet, look at the top of your screen if you see the letter E then you are on their edge network costing you money. There is a button on the top left side of the PDA it is the comm manager shortcut button press it and then tap the wifi icon. after a few seconds (if network is found) it will display all wireless networks within range. Keep in mind to connect to a secure network you will have to know the paraphrase or passkey code.

Hope this helps
