Tims Guide ??

I am still having issues hooking up to my Wifi with my 8125 There was an earlier thread that suggested they use Tims guide

Where can I find this guide sounds like it will help me
I need lots of help.
I have not been able to spend a great deal of time with my PPC yet due to that thing we call work. But I hope to get some time this weekend. I have not been anywhere else like starbucks or Book store to try and connect there so I 'm not sure it works anywhere
I have a D-link extreme G router Which may be the problem
but I have seen others able to connect by tricks and tweaks to G networks. Maybe it will eventually work??

Thanks for the forum!

Tips

Thanks for the link. I had found that before But I still had no luck. i believe that my router is a G not a b/g so I may need another router. Its about 2 years old so maybe thats it?

The flick is a cave called Neversink it's 164 feet (50 m) The water was flowing nicely that day. As I was decending there were many rainbows from the mist. This is favorite place for vertical cavers.
I am going this weekend to a cave that has a 400' pit inside the cave. This will be a photographic trip so maybe if i get some good shots I will post one. Shooting film in a cave is very challanging Light being the big problem. Hauling photo gear through crawling passage is another. Thanks. I am glad you enjoyed the pic

Slabrat:

I too enjoyed your picture! Do upload more! You should be fine if it is a G router as the 802.11g protocol supports b and g devices. I'm not sure if I already asked you this, but is WEP or WPA setup on your router? If so, you might want to remove that to see if it connects up ok. Have you had time to go to a Starbucks yet to try it out? You don't need to pay for the serve, just make sure that a page loads. Good luck and let us know if you have any more questions!

Security is off

I still haven't made it to Starbucks. I hope to go to Barnes and Noble today after work. I work 40 miles in the sticks, from the nearest Coffee shop so it's been hard to get there the last couple of weeks.

I have turned off all security, and the router supplied the key. Wep is off The G only switch is disabled I noticed that ther was some trash where the IP address is supposed to be in the PDA I wonder if I need a hard reset?? I am going to Cingular today to see if the tech support helps any ???
I may contact the router mfg. as well. I still have hope.

Thanks for the help so far. When I have something to report I will let you know. I may become an expert by the time I get it working

I did get news break loaded. It came with the phone looks like it will be Ok since there is no signal here at work I have to wait til I get home to try anything, after the yard work etc is done. If there is anything anyone feels is better I am all about it. ( remember Newsbreak was a free app) Maybe it's good maybe not. I have nothing to compare it to yet.

If I get Wifi to work then next is email and direct push stuff.

Cheers

Hi Slabrat,

Definitely give NewsBreak a shot. I think you'll really like the software! And to clarify it is free to 8125 users thanks to an arrangement set up by your provider...typically it's $19.95.

If you have any questions just let us know!

Wifi Works

As I was sitting in one of the local watering holes along with my favorite tech rep and the lovely Mrs. Slabrat, I looked at my 8125. Low an behold I connected to wifi and actually surfed the net a little, at least till Mrs. Slabrat noticed I wasn't paying proper attention to her and Tech Rep.
But at long last I know that it at least works.
Now if I can get my router at home to work. Then I can get my apps all working. Orrrr I could forget the home router and just hang out at the ole watering hole!!

Keep in touch

Slabrat:

Excellent! I'm glad that you were able to confirm that the WiFi works on your Cingular 8125! I hate to say this, but you might as well try to reset the router's settings. Maybe that will do the trick...

if not, just play around with, when that doesn't work, you run it over with your truck/car. Then drive the same car to the store and pick up a new one. lol. Good luck.

Truck

I believe the router/truck route is the way to go. I tweaked every setting on my router last night and nothing worked. I enabled WEP disabled Wep 128 this DNS that tried static IP in the routers range On and on . So on to the driveway with it I say !!

I just hate that I must replace it. i don't like defeat besides Mrs. Slabrat has cut my best buy and circuit city time out due to previous bad habits, but I can order one!

haha.. you can als try to upgrade the firmware of your router... give it one more chance... I always have faith in technology! Okay, not always... but it's still worth a shot!

As I was trying to decide which vehicle to use to run over my router I looked at the Dlink wesite and found my firmware was 3 updates behind. Since my cave trip was canceled this weekend.and I have no life I decided to upgrade ,,,
Lo and behold I did upgrade the firmware Saturday night late and it worked! Too bad I didn't read your post sooner. Anyway onward and upward. I appreciate all the support so far.I'm sure I'll be around.
I'm now trying to make a playlist on media player to listen to some music what a pain my HHC keeps trying to sync all my music to the storage card Here we go!!
