i have recently bought an o2 xda mini s and am having problems using the wifi to connect to my home wireless system. The xda picks up the router but will not let me connect - help!?!
Hi, Percy... I have to suggest you follow Tim's guide for connecting to WiFi, since you didn't give any details about your problem. I understand your PPC "sees" your router.
a) do you have web encryption?
b) does your router block unauthorized access?
Once we have more details, we will be glad to help.
Ok... If you open up your router's admin panel (password protected, of course)
you will see something that looks like (in a Netgear WiFi Router): Wireless Settings
and then in that screen you see Wireless Card Access List and a box that says "Setup Access List"
Click on Setup Access List, and there you have the option to turn access control on and off, and to identify which of the connected devices (from when it is turned off) will have access once you turn it on...
Warning: Access Control gives lots of headaches with Win98...
I assume you have your home network with WinXP, so just
1) turn access control and WEP off... verify your PPC connects to your LAN.
2) turn WEP on... connect your PPC to the LAN...
3) while connected, check the attached devices list for the IP and MAC address and name of your PPC, then authorize WiFi access for your unit,
4) turn on access control... verify your PPC can reconnect to your LAN.
5) sit back and get ready for this afternoon's Final Soccer game!!!
