XDA mini S WIFI Conection

Hi, I`ve just had my XDA mini s and I`m trying to connect to my WIFI on my PC so I can connect to the internet, The XDA finds the WIFI but everytime I goto Internet Exployer it connects via GPRS.
I know that my home WIFI (asus card) will allow it, because I connected a PSP to the internet using it.

Anyone know what I`m doing wrong? Do I need to change a setting on my XDA.

Thanks for any advice

Pete

Just make sure that you just not see your wifi access point, but connect to it as well. Because if you try to launch your browser and you are not connected to your wifi, your device will find another internet connection that is GPRS if you have PDA/Phone.

Thanks Murduck,

As far as I know I`m connected, I click on the WIFI connection and click on connect, Then it comes up connecting and then after a bit it says available. But I`m still having the same problem,

Welcome to Pocket PC Addict petewxm! Can you try disabling the phone and just enabling the WiFi? Then try to connect. Let us know if that works for you!

Pete:

Thanks for the info! Actually, you don't want to set it into flight mode as it will shut all the radios off! Just go into your Comm manager or what have you and tap on the phone looking icon (if it is enabled). That should disable just the phone radio and not the WiFi.

Try again and then give me the WiFi settings.

Are these settings is in your laptop/Pc?
why not set the SSID? this is to identify your wifi connection.

Hi, I`ve disabled the phone and tried connecting but sadly still no joy,
The settings are off my XDA Mini S.

But I think I`m getting somewhere now, I`ve disabled my windows firewall and now I`m getting a connetion when My network card (On PC) is in station mode, but when I change it to soft AP mode, so that I can connect to the internet, My PDA trys to connect and I get a message "Unable to obtain a server assigned IP address. Try again later or enter an ip address in network settings"

Any ideas???

Thanks for the advice so far

Pete

petewxm:

Wait a second... are you telling us that you don't have a WiFi router, just a WiFi PCI card on your PC? If that's the case your WLAN mode should be set to AdHoc and you need to have Internet Connection Sharing enabled on your PC. Try that out.

Hi Tim,

Yeah it is a network card, Sorry I should have pointed that out, When I have the computer in station mode I can select adhoc and I can connect but can`t do alot more, but when I change it to soft ap mode so I can select ICS to share the internet the adhoc is greyed out and it selects infrastructure.

I would be grateful for anymore advice,

Thanks

Pete

Pete:

Another question how man network cards do you have? To use ICS you need to have 2 network cards, in this case probably a wired card and a wireless card. The wired card should be hooked up to your broadband connection and the wireless should be adhoc-ed to your Pocket PC.

I'm guessing the reason why it grays out is because the wireless card is connected to the internet.

Is that true? Let me know!

Thanks for the pictures! That helps. I'm wondering if ICS will only work for the Ethernet card. That's my guess. Can you show me pictures with the station mode connected?

Hope we can get this up for you!
