Sorry for the double post, but when ever i turn on my Wifi, and see my router list, and try to connect, it will show my routers name and stuff, but it always just says connecting and never really connects.

Welcome to Pocket PC Addict BigZam! WiFi can be an easy connection or a troublesome one as you are probably experiencing-it all depends on how it is done. First of all, let us know what PDA you are using so we can get a feel of what you are seeing. Also, if you have wireless security setup (i.e. WEP, WPA, WPA2) on your router, then you'll need to keep note of the key or passphrase. I would recommend removing wireless security just to check out of your WiFi card is working in your Pocket PC. Have you tried going to a cafe like Starbucks to see if your Pocket PC works there?

Let us know and we can help you further!

Hi, Big Zam... WiFi connections can be a pain because very often they don't appear to be encrypted (or firewalled) but they are. In Starbucks, when you try to connect, you will be sent directly to a T-Mobile WiFi sign in page... so you know that your WiFi is working OK... If you have a wireless router at home with no security on it, your phone should also be able to connect directly and get onto the internet.

Another great source of free WiFi is many public libraries... you sit out in front, and connect for free!

What I've done when I need free WiFi is try, try again, and every so often I get lucky... That's why I installed GPRS for my PPC... it is usually very quick!

Good luck!......... Manny

Hi, BigZam !
Let me get this straight... you got nothing at Starbucks, not even a sign in page? And the same thing happens at home, with no security on the router? Then the problem is probably in your phone.

Firewalls can block anything, including connections, if they are set up to do so (specially when the user says block EVERYTHING) My school has an "open" WiFi setup that doesn't let any "unauthorized" access in. Luckily, we have a neighbor that isn't so picky... But before you can tell if a router is blocking you you first have to determine that WiFi is actually working on your phone.

So, next step is take out the firewall for 5-10 minutes, and try to connect your phone to the WiFi at home... try tim's "Sticky" instructions on WiFi here in the Forum, if you need more help.

Good Luck!!! .............. Manny

well i went to the cingular store, and they said that because it could connect useing medianet there wasn't anything wrong with the phone (they had no Wifi in the store) so i guess i'll try to make it work, if not i'll return it. This is a pretty bad experenice for a frist time PPC user, Sucks makeing me think of going back to normal phones.

BigZam:
Honestly, I think it's time to ask for your money back... because the store (and Cingular) aren't helping you. You are still in time to just cancel the contract and return the PPC... then try another provider and model... As you said, it's a shame you are having such a bad experience.

I can tell you I've been with T-Mobile since it was VoiceStream, 4-5 years ago, and they've always been available and ready to upgrade phones for free, as well as changing damaged phones, so now we have a family plan with 3 phones and one PPC!

Good luck, and please let us know what happens.

Manny

Unbelievable. Just because MediaNet works on your Cingular 8125 doesn't mean that WiFi will. That just shows you how much they actually "care" about the customer. Since you are in that return window they should have exchanged your device no questions asked.

Either way I'm glad that you are going to get it exchange, You can get the ROM update for the Cingular 8125 here:

http://www.htcamerica.net/docs/RUU_W...S_WWE_Ship.exe

If that doesn't work and the exchange doesn't do the trick, T-Mobile also has the Cingular 8125's brother, the T-Mobile MDA which I have heard great reviews about (it's actually exactly like my i-mate K-JAM).

Let us know what happens! Good luck!

BEst of luck, and let us know the results... I've got the T-mobile MDA and am quite happy with it... I feel it is better than the Treo 600 I had before, even if it isn't stereo Bluetooth headset enabled...

Congrats on your wifi connection.
Regarding your messenger questions you can try Agile Messenger is a great one.
Good luck again...

Hey sometimes i get "The page cannot be displayed because the sever could not be found or a DNS error occurred." Now i have not done a soft reset on this new one, could that be the problem, im siting right in front of the router BTW, the sig. str. is full.

Congratulations, BigZam, on your new phone with working WiFi...
I'm glad it worked out fine for you.
as for the occasional disappearing server, with you in front of the router... weird. The soft reset might help, if you simply have conflicting instructions that might block your dns settings, but I'd check some more. I know that my home WiFi setup occasionally acts up and "disappears" for a second, but I have not found out why.

Does it fix itself after a few seconds?

Take care!.......... Manny

That is so great to hear BigZam! (Sorry for the late reply BTW, I've been on vacation) I knew that you were doing everything right... but yeah every now and there then will be a dud, and I'm sorry that you had to run into all that trouble just to find out that you needed an exchange.

But now with that all aside, I'm glad to hear that you have stuck with the Cingular 8125 (and Pocket PCs of course). Let us know if you have any more questions about it! We're here to help!
