I'm sorry you are having trouble getting home networking set up with your XDA Exec. Have you tried using plain old File Explorer on the Pocket PC? This is what I do:
Open up File Explorer.
Tap Menu>Open Path>New Path...
You should already see two backslashes.
At this point put in your computer name or the IP address of the computer you are trying to connect to.
If everything works then your Pocket PC should ask you for credentials.
After you enter your credentials you should be good to go!
Let me know what problems you run into along the way or if you have any questions.
All you really need to do is make sure that File and Print Sharing is enabled on your firewall and that you have the folders you want to share enabled. Windows XP does a nice job with home networking so you shouldn't run into any problems. Let me know if you need anything else.
I have file and printer sharing enabled, I'm sharing the drive I need to access, and I still can't get access to the Windows XP machine. I'm just getting a connection error.
I feel that something must be wrong.
The XDA can access the wireless network fine (it shows up on my Belkin Wireless router as 192.168.2.4), my PC is 192.168.2.2
I feel that there's maybe a service that should be running that I've maybe disabled, or something similar.
It's quite frustrating. Your help is very much appreciated.
Hi Tim - I finally figured it out. I was trying to connect to the IP address of the machine. I tried connecting to the PC name, and got in. I can now watch my files across the network!
