hey there can sumone help me to conect to the internet i dont have a clue how to do it i have the usb cable is there is anyother thing needed
can sumone help me thanx in advance Bob....
btw its a XDA MINI S on o2
Do you have a data package with O2? If not the only way you can connect to the internet is either through WiFi or through ActiveSync when your XDA Mini S is hooked up to your PC via a USB cable.
Tim Nguyen is right, there are a more than one way of connecting your device to the internet.
When im at home i usually use bluetooth to sync, that way i can use my device and surf the web, check my email using my pda via active sync.
There is also GPRS, if wifi is not available.
thanx for the replys guys "Tim Nguyen & murduck" i see there is a way with gprs and wifi i once had my wifi on while i was out at my work driving around and there was lots of messeges popping up on my screen saying to connect to this and connect to that would it be safe to connect to anything it asks me to ?
and i managed to get onto the net using my usb cable and ActiveSync will this charge me doing this and if i manage to connect with bluetooth or wifi or gprs will that charge to?
"murduck" i see u mentioned gprs wat is that and how would i get that to work i have a tomtom gprs thing i use is that wat i would use for the net? sorry if i come across as a dumb ass i know nuttin about this kinda thing
a big thanx in advance Bob....
Hi guy, any of you can help me on how to set up wifi connection for my iPaq1950 in order to access internet network. It's hard for me to go online at a public place though there are lot of available networks. Thanks a lots for your instruction.

Because not all WiFi networks are secure, you can't be too safe when you see a pop up alert that asks you to connect to a wireless network. I would only recommend connecting to that network if you feel that it is a trusted access point (i.e t-mobile, waypoint, your friend's, etc).
That's great that you got internet running through USB and ActiveSync. To answer your next question, you only can charge your PDA when you are physically connected to a power source. In this case your power source was the computer and it is physically connected to your PDA using a USB cable.
GPRS stands for General Packet Radio Service. You don't really need to understand what that means, just know that it allows you to connect to the internet via your wireless carrier. You need to contact your wireless carrier if you want to set that up. I wouldn't recommend using it without calling them first because you will get data overage charges since you don't have a plan to start out with.
Lastly, I believe you are talking about GPS (Global Positioning System) when you were talking about your TomTom. That is something completely different as it is used to track where you are in the world and is by no means a method to connect to the internet.
I hope this helps. Please let usknow if you need anything else.

As I was saying with bm_badboy, to be safe you should only connect to wireless networks that are secure, or to ones that you trust. If you see a popup that asks you to connect to a network, make sure you know what you are connecting to just in case there are hackers on the same network.
Some wireless beginners leave their access points to default settings without a security key (WEP or WPA) and those are usually labeled as "default" "linksys" or "netgear". It's safe to say that you'll probably get free access to the internet, but because it's free that probably means there are others around you using the same network, which either can mean slower speeds, or allows others to access your files.
I hope this helps you! Let us know if you have any questions.

Bob:
The Wireless PCI card that you are referring to will only give wireless access to your PC. You would still need a wireless router that was physically connected to the internet to get a connection.
However, the Wireless PCI card will let you transfer files from your PDA to your PC if your use Ad Hoc wireless networking. A tutorial on how to set that up is located here. This method will not allow you to connect to the internet (unless you use ICS (internet connection sharing) but that is way too complex for doing what you want to do).
In the end, if you really want internet access for your PDA I recommend that you purchase a wireless router like a Linksys WRT54GC Wireless Router and hook that up to a broadband connection so that you can have access to the internet via your XDA Mini S.
Tim Nguyen, thx for your kind explaination on my question. I feel very happy and be helpful when joining with you guys. Wish all you be happy and healthy.
