I have an gmail account and i want them on my pocket pc, i use this settings pop.gmail.com:995 and smtp.gmail:465.
But everytime i try to get my email i get an message "Messages canot be downloaded to your device. Make sure you are connected and that your e-mail account settings are correct."
Im connected via wifi, and i did folow the instructions on how to setup email accounts. I also enable the pop settings on my gmail account.
Have you tried allowing your Pocket Pc to automatically detect the settings? If you do it should work just fine. If not here are the settings for Gmail:
I got the same problem.Hotmail & texting work but anything else(gmail, Yahoo, aol)when i switch to and try send/recieve'ing i get "Cannot connect with current conn. settings...,tap setting".I have to go to explorer and go their sign in pages and they work.Any suggestions?
Welcome to Pocket PC Addict yshysofly! What are your connection settings like on your 8125? What networks are selected for programs that want to connect to the internet? This might be the problem.
Guys... this week I started having the same problem with my Hotmail account... on line and on the desktop it's fine, but on the MDA it won't connect... I suspect it's either and anti-spam or a new security filter they put in on the server side...
My tentative solution: using WebMail and checking to see if they recommend setting changes, since Hotmail did work the first 2 days I had it set up....
That's my 2 cents worth... (I can't believe I'm giving Murduck a suggestion!!!) :shocked smiley: ROFL

Well I was able to find a a post from Aximsite about it. Heres the one that i followed:
""""There are two prerequisites for the email service, a correctly provisioned account & the correct settings in the handsets. I can confirm that your account is correctly provisioned, therefore all you require now are the correct settings for the service.
Please make sure that the internet connection works on your device, this is imperative as your device uses this connection as a form of sending & receiving email.
Below you will find the manual settings for gmail accounts.
How do I manually setup the POP3 settings?
Start > Messaging > Menu > Tools > New Account
Email address: enter your full email address
Tap Next
Your Name: your full name (or can be anything)
User Name: username@gmail.com
Password: your email account password
Tick Save Password
Tap Next
In the Name field you can enter a name for the account (only possible if setting up new account)
Tap Next
Incoming Mail: pop.gmail.com
Outgoing Mail: smtp.gmail.com
Leave the Domain field blank
Tap Finish
Please note, for a gmail account you will need to enable 'Require SSL connection' this can be selected within the messaging option found when setting the account up. Alternatively you can follow these menu map steps;
Start ~ Messaging ~ Menu ~ Tools ~ Options ~ (Select Gmail account) ~ (Keep tapping next until you reach the 'server information section') ~ Tap on 'Options' ~ Then select next, which will then take you through to the 'Require SSL connection' """"
Second email -
""""A common problem which people encounter when trying to integrate a Gmail account is the fact that there account has not enabled pop3 access. This is imperative; by enabling pop3 access what you are saying in effect is "My emails can be downloaded on an external device, such as XDA"
I would recommend that you login to your Google account, once you are logged in I advise you to check the settings section, from there you will see an option of "Enable pop3 access" , please make sure this box is ticked.
I suspect, the above will provide a resolution, if not, I would recommend that you contact Google, as Google would be able to advise of the settings required within your account for allowing external access. The problem is not with the device, as the device can connect to the internet, hence the issue is email account orientated. """"
i tried everything mentioned. its kinds of wierd, hotmail works fine but if i switch to anything else, like gmail, and click send/recieve right away the "cannot connect...tap settings" window pops up. o well , i just have to go through explorer to get to my email accounts. still open to any suggestions, thanks
I followed the above steps... I rcvd my email, but my 8125 states that it could not download the mail. Check my settings and make sure Im connected... And I cant send messages... I double checked everything, I even made sure that I enabled pop on the gmail site... Now what???
I searched and came to this forum over the same problem with a UT Starcom PPC6700 with Windows Mobile 5.0 and found my solution to be to get into the account setting and click "options" at the "Server Information" screen. Click "next" and check the box that says "outgoing mail requires authentication"
I sent 2 test emails after checking that box and its working again
i had the same problem with my 8125 and PPC gmail...
after trying a lot of the suggestions above, i changed the outgoing port to 587 (found on the gmail help pages) and moved all of the unsent messages in my outbox to drafts, send/receive, and then opened one by one in drafts and hit 'send'. now they seem to all be sending... weird. but it appears fixed for me
