Thumbs up Do It Yourself (DIY): Stereo Bluetooth (A2DP) on the SP5 HTC Tornado + some others

Got this over at msmobiles.com:

If you would like to enjoy the comfort of stereo audio over Bluetooth in your Windows Mobile 5.0 phone - either for stereo Bluetooth headset or for wireless Bluetooth speakers, you don't have to wait for mercy of your distributor or vendor - to deliver a ROM upgrade with A2DP, because now you can do it yourself:

1. The ROM should be updated as latest AKU2 ROM

2. Extract the attached *.zip file. Find this files Avrcp_MPplugin.dll, bta2dp.dll and sbc.dll. Copy these three files to \Windows thru ActiveSync.

3. You also find this file Tor_A2DP_cert.CAB . Copy this file to any folder (I recommend \My Documents), and install it in PDA.

4. Import or modify A2DP-related registry values as follows, I use resco editor.

[...]

6. Deleted any bluetooth headset pair and soft reset.

7. You can enable A2DP for your stereo headset, from Settings - 6. Connections - 2. Bluetooth - Menu (right softkey) - 1. Devices - Select your A2DP headset - Menu (right softkey) - Set as Wireless Stereo !!

To learn more or to download this A2DP patch, click here. Direct download link is here. See also here.

Please note: while this A2DP patch is designed for HTC Tornado, apparently also it worked with some other Windows Mobile 5.0 phones like HTC Apache, etc. So you may try (at your own responsibility) to apply it on your other Windows Mobile 5.0 phone!

murduck:

You can apply the latest i-mate PDA2K ROM udpate (found at ftp.clubimate.com or http://www.clubimate.com/t-device_pda2k_bt3.aspx if you have registered there) which updates the bluetooth stack to support A2DP. I believe the ROM update file is: PDA2k_WWE_14000_176_11200.exe. Please let me know if this works but remember, do this at your own risk! Hope this helps!

Tim: Thanks for the link and the info! I was going to wait for a ROM upgrade, but your solution is better! Now, to save up for a Stereo Bluetooth Headset....

By the way, this note is really valuable, and might be worth putting on the FAQ..., with your other tutorials!
