Hi people
I have a Toshiba e800 which has recently decided to switch itself on, resulting in me going to use it and finding the battery power has got so low it auto powers off.
This does not make it very mobile.
Does anybody have any idea what may be causing this auto switch on or is it just haunted.
Im scaring myself now.
Please help.
Thanks
I've had the same problem on my Ipaq a few times, for me it is the calendar (or task) switching the device on to sound an alert - this isn't a problem as that's what the device is designed for, it's when it's not switching off.
The following may cause your device to stay on and drain power;
1) Don't want to sound condescending (do you know what that means? ) but make sure you've set the device to switch off automatically after a set time. (Control Panel --> Power)
2) The other option is that you have an application which overrides the power setting and keeps the device on. The two for me were TomTom and TCPMP (most music programs will have do this). To fix the problem make sure you exit the app via the menu rather than switching the device off - or install something that actually exits the application when you hit the close part in the window (eg Magic Button).

Hi Benji
Thanks for the info,
I couldn't find a cause for the switching on and my auto switch off was set to 5 minutes which worked but then switched on again.
I installed "Magic Button" which seems to have done the trick and is pretty useful too.
A common cause for devices being "turned on" is not using a hard case, which can allow buttons to be pressed activating the device.
Another cause I have heard about is related to ActiveSync, which causes the device to want to sync automatically, causing it to "wake up" and seek a connection to your PC. I believe this happens in 4.1, but not in 3.8, so depending on which version you have, this may be a potential cause as well.
