Yeah but it involves a hammer and a good insurance policy lol.

I dont know what to tell you, you could maybe try reromming it. Try to download a rom for your phone and run the RUU installer and that might do it.

You must be using some 3rd party software as the lock windows has built in is not this good.

Got it. From the HP website...

HP iPAQ hx2400 Pocket PC series*-* HP iPAQ hx2000 series Pocket PC - Resetting the Unit - c00266789 - HP Business Support Center

Clean Reset

On Windows Mobile 2003 SE products, a hard (full) reset clears all user-installed settings, applications, and data from RAM (Random Access Memory), where data and applications you have loaded are stored. A full reset should be performed only if a normal reset does not solve a system lockup or failure. A full reset returns the unit to the factory defaults. Remove AC power before performing a full reset.

  • NOTE: Data in the iPAQ File Store is maintained following a full reset. For all other data, users must restore data from an expansion storage card or PC ActiveSync backup after performing a full reset.

On Windows Mobile 5.0 products, a hard (full) reset stops all running programs, but does not clear user data or applications because they are stored in ROM (Persistent Store feature). A hard reset also resets all hardware registers. Users can perform a Clean Reset, in which the product is cleared to its factory defaults. A clean reset returns the HP iPAQ to the default Windows Mobile 5.0 settings with no user data or applications.
To perform a clean reset please follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the Calendar button, the Power button, and the Messaging button.
  2. While holding these buttons, use the stylus to lightly press the Reset button on the bottom of the HP iPAQ.

Cool did it work, I should have been a little more specific as Im use to only two resets with wm5 and 6. Performing a hard reset or what hp call a clean reset is what you need to do. I imagine now you know what buttons to press that this solved the issue. Also I guess I could have done some googling as I would have found out your device is running 2003ce and all you would have had to do is remove the battery for like a week. As the ram on a 2003 device is dependent on a battery and a back up battery to not loose your data stored in the ram. In wm5 they fixed this issue for the most part. 2003 devices are never supose to go completely dead as they will loose even programs and other things stored on them as well. Well let me know how it went.

Tmobile Wing Hard Reset

Put stylus in the hole below the volume slider on side of ppc and hold down the two soft keys at the same time. After you push in the stylus, keep holding down the soft keys until a message pops up asking if you want to hard reset the ppc. Press the talk button and your done.

HX 4705 won't boot

Okay,
I've performed soft resets, hard resets, pulled the battery out and re-installed, etc. All with the following result: When I power it up, it hangs on the initial HP iPAQ 'splash screen'. The only button that appears to do anything (used by itself) is the reset button on the bottom. Pressing that makes the screen dim.
I use this device to run some glide computer software, using a GPS NMEA message source connected to the serial port. It was working fine until a couple days ago.

TIA

I had never heard of the device but after googling it found that it is running wm5.

Why are you trying to hard reset?

Ok if your not trying to get around a device lock or password and its fully functional just go into settings/ device/ clear storage. Hit 1234 and enter thats it there you go.

How to hard reset ATT 8525? I've 8525 device (touch-screen) and had WM6 running on it. I installed some tools and as a result, it was hung. On rebooting the device (by removing the battery), it was stuck at password screen. No keys are working including the power button. Any idea how to recover from this state?

Asus A632 / A636 I think its wrong

i think on ASUS the hard reset is:

volume (-) with "rotate" and reset...

then you press the "zoom" out button.
