I understand that owning a Pocket PC for the first time might be a big step especially with a Pocket PC Phone Edition device. Since you have an HP iPAQ h6315 is it safe to assume that you have T-Mobile set up with a data plan? If not let us know what service you are using this device with.
So are you saying that your WiFi connection works with your h6315? If it does work, then you are one step closer to getting online via GPRS!
thanks for the reply, yes the wi-fi works. my phone was t-mobile,but now it is unlocked. i have t-moble srvice , but i also have a cingular togo sim card i use out away ffrom t-mobles follow the interstate service. this might sound wierd but i got a internet conection while my 6315 was in the docking station
(which is sinced to my laptop) i was quite suprised. but as soon as i removed it i got a error message.lost network conection,or something. i have been told that because its unlocked icant get cingulars mobile.com or whatever they call it. if your familiar with my equipment, where am i supposed to get all the info this thing is asking for in order to set up my networks.
thanks ,walt
Ok, I understand where you are now. It is perfectly normal to get an internet connection while your device is connected to your computer. The device is in a sense connected to the internet as well since your computer is connected. Think of it as a mini network and the USB cable that connects your PDA to your computer is a network cable.
To answer your question about connecting to the internet via Cingular (I assume the T-Mobile GPRS connection works?) you can follow the instructions below. I am thinking about having a thread specifically for internet connection settings, but you'll have to make due with the information I got from Cingular's website below (this is for an HP hw6515, but they are running the same OS).
Configuring the Access point settings:
Tap Start.
Select Settings.
Tap the Connections tab.
Select the Connections icon.
Tap Add a new modem connection. Note (screenshot 2): If connections already exist, tap Manage existing connections, select the desired connection, tap Edit and proceed to step 7.
Enter a name for the connection.
From the Select a modem drop-down, select "Cellular line GPRS."
Make sure that you connect to this new connection when you are using the Cingular chip and connect to the other connection when you are using the T-Mobile SIM card.
Also, make sure you have a data plan on Cingular because it can cost a pretty penny without one.
those are the best directions i have gotten from anyone. thank you for your
help. i just have one more question. how do i corectlly enter my apn. i have looked up the defenition-but--- is it (internet) or media.net or http://www.media.net. i tried cingular but they had a 20 min hold time.
thanks,walt
