I understand that owning a Pocket PC for the first time might be a big step especially with a Pocket PC Phone Edition device. Since you have an HP iPAQ h6315 is it safe to assume that you have T-Mobile set up with a data plan? If not let us know what service you are using this device with.

So are you saying that your WiFi connection works with your h6315? If it does work, then you are one step closer to getting online via GPRS!

Cingular Wireless Internet Connection Settings (GPRS)

Walt:

Ok, I understand where you are now. It is perfectly normal to get an internet connection while your device is connected to your computer. The device is in a sense connected to the internet as well since your computer is connected. Think of it as a mini network and the USB cable that connects your PDA to your computer is a network cable.

To answer your question about connecting to the internet via Cingular (I assume the T-Mobile GPRS connection works?) you can follow the instructions below. I am thinking about having a thread specifically for internet connection settings, but you'll have to make due with the information I got from Cingular's website below (this is for an HP hw6515, but they are running the same OS).

Configuring the Access point settings:
  1. Tap Start.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Tap the Connections tab.
  4. Select the Connections icon.
  5. Tap Add a new modem connection.
Note (screenshot 2): If connections already exist, tap Manage existing connections, select the desired connection, tap Edit and proceed to step 7.
  6. Enter a name for the connection.
  7. From the Select a modem drop-down, select "Cellular line GPRS."
  8. Select Next.
  9. In the "Access point name" field, enter the appropriate value for the APN.
  10. Select Next.
  11. Verify the following profile settings:
  12. Select Finish.
  13. Attempt an internet connection.
NOTE: APN: Access Point Name

Make sure that you connect to this new connection when you are using the Cingular chip and connect to the other connection when you are using the T-Mobile SIM card.

Also, make sure you have a data plan on Cingular because it can cost a pretty penny without one.

Hope this helps!

The default APN you should use for Cingular is:

wap.cingular

That APN is for MEdia Net data plans. If you have a PDA Connect data plan the APN is:

isp.cingular

Let me know if it works for you!

Glad to be of assistance.
