iPAQ 22xx Auto Shutoff Bug and Possible Workaround

One complaint that is starting to surface regarding the iPAQ 2200 models is in some circumstances a user will turn on the Pocket PC and find that within 10 seconds, it immediately shuts off. Various applications have been suspected as causing this problem, however, having suffered through it myself, I believe the culprit is actually a piece of HP software that is pre-installed on the iPAQ!

Aside from turning on your iPAQ and it immediately turning off, here are some additional symptoms and a possible workaround: You may notice your alarms are no longer sounding. This is actually not an alarm problem, it is a symptom of this bug. What happens is the alarm tries to sound, but the shutdown bug turns off the iPAQ before it can sound. This is true for calendar, tast and clock alarms. Here's what I found to work and others are reporting it fixed their problem too. The bug occured for me after I started scheduling backups using the iPAQ backup utility.

After disabling the "Enable Scheduled Start Up" option, the problem went away. Others have reported that unchecking the "Enable Battery Monitor" was enough to do the trick.

If you are having this problem, try disabling automatic backups and let us know if this fixes the problem
