Web design hampers mobile Internet, Berners-Lee says "Web designers have learned to design for the visually impaired and for other people. They will learn in a few years how to make Web sites available for people with mobile devices, too," Tim Berners-Lee said today at a seminar on the future of the Web. The mobile Internet "will be a huge enabler for the industry ... and for big profits."
Berners-Lee invented the Web in 1990 while working at European particle-physics lab CERN in Geneva, trying to make it easier for fellow scientists to share information and collaborate over the Internet. While his work has revolutionized the way people across the globe collaborate and communicate, repeated attempts by mobile device makers and operators to lure users with mobile Internet access have failed. "
It only takes about 5 minutes of PPC surfing to realize it's not as easy or fun as desktop surfing. Unless the site in question has a mobile portal like we do, you may be tempted to say "why bother?" with some sites. As a webmaster, I know the challenges sites face. Working towards getting this whole site mobile-friendly is presenting a great challenge. Challenge as it may be, we'll eventually get there...but what about the rest of the world?
