This question comes from Daniel: "I've left the pocket pc completely discharge and then I've turned it on ...and blank, all my data/settings were gone of course.
I've never specifically done a backup, just synchronized the unit with the PC every now and then. Is there any way I can bring my Pocket PC back to where it once was?" PPC Addict Answer: Yes and no.
First things first. Be sure to recharge your Pocket PC completely.
Undock it.
Then open Activesync on your desktop computer. Go to file>Delete Partnership. If it asks "Do you want to delete your sync'd files folder" Say NO.
Reboot your computer and soft reset your PPC.
When your computer has rebooted, dock your Pocket PC and go through the establishing standard partnership settings. Your tasks, calendar and other info will be synced back the way they were the last time you synced. If you had the sync file folder enabled initially, then you'll get all of that back too. well, ín your answer you say YES and NO. Then you explained the YES part but I have not found the NO part, where I guess you should have explained that he wont gain back any of the programs installed before neither any customization like skins, registers hacks, etc, etc. So basically he will get back all data but not any program.
Another good idea (for the future) is to install applications on a memory card. The exceptions are Today plug-ins and system-type apps like WISBar, etc. (those should go on internal memory).
I've found that an overwhelming majority of apps recover nicely from a hard-reset (where the app is installed on a memory card) Often times, you don't even have to re-enter registration information.
So much of my configuration was preserved using this method that I made quarterly hard-resets part of my regular maintenance routine. Within less than an hour, I had my configuration back to where it was. (minus the miscellaneous junk that gets left-behind from various tests, etc.)
Personally, I gather all of my registrations, download all of the software installers, and record all of my custom settings before I hard reset. That way, everything is right there and ready to go. I can have things back to normal in a half hour or less.
