In my earlier post I spoke about trying to tweak the password used to log into my PocketPC, but it occured to me that there is less sensitive data that is kept on my External card (512Mb SD Kingston) which I would nonetheless rather not see in the hands of a third party.
Is there a program (or inbuilt feature that I've missed) which would enable me to lock the entire card down, but still allow me to read/write to it on my SD card reader on my PC?
Considering the teeny, tiny size of SD cards they are far more likely to just get lost because they could be misplaced or fall out my ipaq's leather case, so it would be nice to know that my data hasn't been compromised as well as my wallet.
I use Resco Explorer. It's got a plug in that allows you to encrypt/unencrypt files from both your desktop and PPC. It's great for the storage card. you don't have to encrypt everything, you can pick and choose what you want encrypted.
Using resco you will have to decrypt any files befor you read or edit then. and then encypt them again.
The closest thing I would find that would do what you want is Sentry 2020.
You still have to encrypt and decrypt but it's much simpler.
Check it out you'll see what I mean. One con though, it costs $50

Thanks for the replies everyone. It is suprising that there isn't a more standard way of acheiving this, such as having a fully encrypted card that unlocks when entering the PocketPC logon, with a sister program that sits on a partnership PC/Mac to read/write files from there.
I guess if I wish to put sensitive material on my SD card then I'm going to have to use the Resco Explorer method.
Thanks again.
Well, there are solutions to more closely match what you're looking for,but based on your original question it sounded like you only needed to encrypt a handful of files. Sentry 2020 would probably meet the needs of an entire secure Digital card better than Resco.

Acually the Ipaq 4700 , and 2700 series have this feature built in.
The user may acually encrypt any file, all files, or even personal databases, and decrypt then ever time he/she enters the startup password.
But no doubt that will cause some startup lag.
